Constantly having to download game

Am just wondering if anyone else is having or has suffered from this issue.

Bascially I purchased Going Rogue via download option. Have downloaded the full 3.6gb and installed the game. Managed to get into game a play for a while. The problem occurs once I try to start the game up again. It is making redownload the full 3.6gb. Once it asks me where I would like to install the files I direct it to my already installed folder, yet I then receive an error. So I am forced to either delete that content or create a new folder.

Anyway I created a new folder and once again downloaded the full 3.6gb. Played the game lastnight with no problems. I go to play this morning and I am once again having to download 3.6gb. This is insane and to be honest am getting rather pee'd off with it now.

Have tried everything I can think of so am hoping that you guys and gals can shed some light on a fix.

Have you tried going to your CoH install folder and clicking on the cohupdater.exe directly? If that does work then just creat a shortcut to it. If it doesn't...then I got nothing.

Sometimes you get the bear; sometimes he get you, rips your head off, sucks out your eyes, pulls out your spleen, humps your leg and pees in your boots

YeahI tried that, it opens up the updater which then asks me to redownload the game. Am once again downloading the game, am rather worried about having downloaded 12gb of data lol. Sue my ISP isnt going to be too happy with me.

Ok, then all I can suggest is asking this up in the Tech forum, thats where your more likely to get the help you need.

1. What's the exact error you get when you try to direct it to your existing folder?
2. Where do you have the game installed to?

I had this problem and solved it by moving the 3 files in the C:/Windows folder (they all have names that begin or end with coh) to the install folder (C:/Program Files/City of hereos).

The error message I am getting when I try to install is

:- Error opening file D:\Gaming\City of Heroes/CohUpdater.exe

You may be out of disk space or you maybe trying to install to a location where you have insufficient persmissions.

Have installed the game to D:/Gaming/City of Heroes (have a seperate drive for all my games).

Had a browse through my C:\Windows folder but am unable to locate anything at all to do with CoH.

I would move CohUpdater.exe out of the game directory and put it in its own directory. Delete the shortcut you use to start the game and make a new one to the updater in its own location (or edit your shortcuts to point to the new location). That should solve the file permissions error. If you get the game to run, delete any new copy of the updater it sticks in the game directory and any shortcut it creates.

I'm not sure why the game's trying to redownload.

Suffered this issue on my laptop.

Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cryptic\COH

Look for the keys "InstallPath" and "Installation Directory", and change the values to the correct location where your game is.

In my case, it was running out of one directory, and trying to download the whole game into another. :P

That's an interesting issue. Just to check, do you have admin rights on your computer? When you start the game, it checks the registry to see if the game is installed - if your account doesn't have the rights to write to the registry, the updater doesn't find the installation information and tries to install again. Thus, could you verify that you have all the file and registry write permissions you need on your machine?
