Vendetta system
I like the idea a lot. So I'm all for it.
But I think adding an 'opt-in' of some sort would be a good idea. That way people that prefer not to mess with something like this wouldn't be bothered.
Yea...that would take the pi$$ out of most of the whiners. Those of us hard rockers that dont mind getting our hair mussed up or a wrinkle in our spandex can feel like were really at war and not some social event. Thanks for the post!

Sounds pretty cool to me. I think it'd work really well now that we have GR. Heroes vs. Villains is one thing, but the situation on Praetoria seems a lot more volatile. I think ambushes of this nature there would really add to immersion.

There's an arc or two I've done on redside where you get attacked on the outdoor map by the same type of enemies that you defeated in the last 3 or 4 missions.
EX: Running an arc in Sharkhead, did 3 missions all taking out freaskhow. soon as I left the 3rd mission, a small group of Freakshow were heading towards the door I just came out of, nowhere near Potter's Field, mind you, where they usually hang out. Not only that, but they were going right for me, not just minding their own business like the other mobs on outdoor maps.
So that makes me wonder, does a smaller version of your idea exist already? If so, then a vendetta system could definitely be built on what;s already there I would think.
I like it.
Maybe have three settings?:
Ambush me when alone.
Ambush me all the time.
Opt-Out.
Yeah, eventually (L15+) the Hellions would give up, but the CoT would never forget. Until you taught them the error of thier ways, of course.

However, one could set up the system in such a way that it would be possible to avoid the "Vendetta" tagging you, but it would have to be an in-game reason. Maybe after you acquire a defeat badge a new "Contract Killer" enemy mob could spawn... if you kill him you skip the Vendetta, otherwise he reports back to the enemy group... and it is ON!
I like the idea... but am opposed to an "opt in" option, say in the menu.

Yea, you could set it up so that you have to do a mission to get into witness protection to avoid the vendetta. Could you imagine the chaos if you had several vendettas going at once? Make it so they had no qualms about fighting each other over dibbs on your hide? Just turn the corner and theirs a gang war going on. Id love it...you would be cagey all the time wondering if you were gonna get jumped.

This idea has great potential.
This is a great Idea
There are potential problems with its implementation, however.
If some (or most) were based off Defeat badges, how would it effect folks who already have these badges. For example, if I had 15 defeat badges which triggered Vendetta's, would I suddenly beset by 15 different ambush groups on day one of the new system ?
Ouch !
What would make sense to me would be a system that was triggered simply by numbers of defeats and have everyone set to zero when the system went live. Make the numbers hidden, so you cannot see the progress. Make the number random. And finally, make it only occur in open zones which are frequented by that group. So if you trigger a Vendetta with the Tsoo, you dont know when its coming, but flying through Steel Canyon or IP would likely cause an ambush if you have met the defeat total.
The second issue would be having all these random groups of mobs running around in low-level zones. It would be undesirable to have collateral casualties of lower level characters who ran into your high level ambush that was trying to chase you across the sky.
Third, as someone mentioned, these should be solo events only. Imagine how this would slow down a TF if you had to deal with 8 players' worth of ambushes.
BIOSPARK :: DARKTHORN :: SKYGUARD :: WILDMAGE
HEATSINK :: FASTHAND :: POWERCELL :: RUNESTAFF
I had an idea ive been chewing over for some time now. Its essentally an ambush system to keep players on their toes and to keep things lively. It could be tied into the defeat badges where the Hellions are not happy with the fact that you rubbed out 100 or so of their best and brightest and they hire a hit squad or squads that harass you from time to time until you take out the hit squad leader then they cancel their vendetta against you. It wouldnt have to happen with each badge you acru, maybe only the ones that have critters that are in your level range.
I could forsee lots of possible problems with this system namely the obligatory whine fest about how its too hard and how low level observers are getting ganked by passing mobs. im certain controls could be implemented to prevent random ganking...after all the vendetta should be focused on one person and perhaps his teamates. completing vendettas could award new defeat badges. It would be fun knowing that the Circle was gunning for you personally and could add to your personal lore. I have a character who has a grudge with Crey(who doesnt?)and the Countess personally.
Throw some ideas at me if you have any further thoughts or your much anticipated criticisms that I know the Doom cryers are just itching to spew forth.
