Max Headroom is on DVD!
I remember blipverts (condensed commercials that were blowing people up).

total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
I remember it as the best cyberpunk-flavored sci-fi TV show of the decade whose titular character improbably managed to capture the zeitgeist of the 80s. Thanks to the rights issues surrounding the US series, my favorable memory is in need of refreshing. It's a shame, though, this DVD set doesn't include the original UK pilot, which I also remember was superior to the US one.
Yes he was a spokesman for Coke, and he was extremely popular too. I understood that's why the show was created. I loved watching it when I could. When I can afford the DVD set I'm picking it up.

23 minutes into the future, the world has become imbued network-television. It's illegal to turn off your tv, and televisions are given to the needy. In this world, Network 23 has a highly-rated news program with a roving reporter named Edison Carter. But Carter gets caught in an experiment to create a computer-generated personality, and "Max Headroom" is born. Together, Max and Edison, along with Edison's controller (Theora), their boss (Murray), their boss' boss (Ben Cheviot), and Network 23's boy-genius (Bryce) combat crime, placate sponsors, defeat rival networks, and turn in stories. |

No, the Coke ads aired in the US after Headroom's first appearance in 1984 on UK television in a talk show reminiscent of Space Ghost Coast to Coast crossed with MTV, which led to the UK pilot "20 Minutes into the Future" the next year. It's rather complicated.

Now I'm doing this for more then simply saying, hey this show is on DVD now. I wanna ask, does anyone remember much about this show? I'm tempted to buy it but I don't really remember anything about it.
