Well Buffy has been referenced not only in the True Blood TV show but in the books as well.
IIRC in one book Sookie actually gets Eric to watch some Buffy and he thinks it's hilarious.

But yeah calling True Blood "Buffy with nudity" is not extremely too far off the mark...

I'm thinking at this point Bill might be the only vampire who even has a clue that blood from people like Sookie has that effect on vampires. One would think if that was "common vampire knowledge" that the vamps would be after Sookie-type people all the time and would openly talk about it amongst themselves. The idea that "Sookie blood" can allow vamps to become daywalkers was never mentioned in the books so where that goes is completely up to what the TV producers come up with.

Got a weird vibe from that new waitress at Merlotte's when she was talking to Arlene; could she be a spy from Hotshot?
Actually the Holly character from the books was a waitress at Merlotte's from the very beginning and was closer to Sookie's age. Basically the TV producers decided to hold off introducing her until now and decided to make her a bit older with older kids. But based on how she knew Arlene was pregnant just by looking at her it seems that "what" she is in the books is still going to be the case in the TV show. I won't spoil that in case it's not obvious yet.

And I have a bad feeling that when Russell does go down, Debbie will come back to deliver a heart-crushing blow and provide the finale's cliffhanger; if not, we can always hope for another catfight between her and Sookie.
Based on how bad Sookie cut her face I'll bet the TV show is going to keep having her come back sort of as a semi-insane Joker to Sookie's Batman - a nemesis that just never completely goes away. It's hard to say what's going to happen to Debbie because in the books she came to Sookie's house alone to attack Sookie and instead of a long catfight Sookie basically managed to shotgun blast Debbie in the face. Obviously the TV producers wanted her character last a little longer than that.

When I first read this I initially thought, nope no way. Then thinking a bit, I have to say it's a good theory. As Lothic pointed out it's not part of book canon, but it would make sense to the little additions the show has added and it would explain why Claudine was so freaked out about Bill being in "that garden place".

Playing with this theory my guess is that Sookies type (name withheld for spoiler purposes) are are as mythical to vamps as they were to us before the great reveal. They are attracted to their blood by instinct but they don't know why. It would fill in some of the gaps from the books and also explain the catnip like attraction. It would also explain a lot of the tension in future books. I just hope we eventually get Claudine in the real world and not just the "garden place".

Foamy, I like your thoughts here.

The part that really, REALLY got me about Russell's closing comment was that he turned and looked at a different camera, just like they often do on news shows when they pitch it to the weather. THAT had me rolling on the floor!

Another great episode, and a hilarious finish. :-)

Does that make Jason the counterpart to Xander?

HEY, GOOD IDEA: You should create ONE DARNED THREAD per TV show. Not per episode.

HEY, GOOD IDEA: **** off.

Just kidding.

But seriously, **** off.

Totally seriously this time, it might work if they stickied the show threads, but they haven't so far, and it doesn't kill anyone to skim past the new episode thread.

Don't you have some whining and moaning about LoT to do? If you don't like it, don't contribute to the "spam" by posting in threads you don't think should exist.

Hey! I've got an idea. If you want to police this section of the forums so badly, apply for a job with NC. Until then...........well I think Foamy covered that.

I'm currently admin on boards for a different gaming company... Don't think I can work two jobs.

Then maybe stop taking your job home with you and just do it over there then.

I haven't gotten a chance to watch the show due to not having HBO, and my box sets of the first two seasons are still unopened, but from the clips I have seen, I think I know what Sookie is.....

She is a .......

LOL! That's a very funny idea. It's the kind of lycanthropy -everyone- can have (including Sookie).

Most weres/shifters take off their clothes to transform into an animal.
A were-nudist would just have to take off their clothes...
I just had a vision of trying to explain that "outfit" at my next Halloween party.

Well Jason is kind of the Xander of this show from the "dumb guy" point of view, but I would say Hoyt fills that slot a bit too. Hoyt's basically the "simple yet loyal good-hearted friend" you can always count on.

Bill is the obvious the Angel of the show.
Eric is the Spike of the show.
Lorena -was- the Drusilla of the show.

Ironically enough in the books there's a character who would be the obvious Willow of the show. Her name is Amelia Broadway and she's literally a witch that for a time lives with Sookie as a roommate in her house. The TV show has yet to introduce that character so I'm not sure if it's fair to mention her here or not.

It's hard to peg who would be the Rupert Giles of the show. I would say Sookie's Gran Adele Stackhouse might have filled that role.

Cordelia Chase is a hard one to cover as well. I'd almost have to say Arlene might fill that role. Arlene's the female friend who's generally good to everyone but is a bit self-centered and doesn't really accept all the "supernatural" stuff as easily as the other characters do.

Jessica would be closest to the Dawn of the show. She's the "child" character who's become a sort of de facto little sister to Sookie.

I'm sure there are other character connections you could make but that's a good enough start for now.

It will be interesting to see which deaths are avoided in the TV show. Lafayette has a more dramatic role in the show and is one of the favorite characters on the show if not the most favorite character for some people. Will be interesting to see how long Hadley and Sophie Ann last since I don't think Hadley was ever in the books as a active participant and Sophie Ann has changed too much to be considered as the same character in the book.
