I have a lvl 31 Fire/SS tank that I'm somewhat ignoring until GR comes out. I plan on making him into either a Rogue or a Villain and I haven't decided which.
The Super Strength's kd helps both in mitigation and in keeping foes from running out of burn because of the fear. Consume makes the -end on the rage crash fairly mute. It's a fun toon to solo and has was leveling quite easily.
Throwing darts at the board to see if something sticks.....

I leveled one to 50 sometime ago, and it was one hellova' ride. Rage + Fiery Aura just = win! I think I had so much fun with it I rolled another...can't remember where I which server I hid that one on...
I've got my eye on a Electric/SS now...Which is pretty much Rangles fault, but that's a different thread.

However, it's probably because Shield greatly overshadows FA as an offensive set. So if you want to build an offensive tank bypassing shield is a conscious decision to take a substantial cut in your offensive abilities.
Even elec in a lot of ways provides comparable offense to FA through unlimited endurance and a recharge boost.
Both shield and elec armor are newer to tanks too so one would expect them to have elevated popularity.
That said, Castle mentioned he'd look into improving FA in one of the Shield nerf threads, so hopefully it comes out on a similar offensive level as Shields after he is done with both of them.
A Fire/SS tank was actually the first tank I ever made back in 2004, and for some odd reason, he's still my favorite of all to play. But yeah, I pretty much retired him after they nerfed burn and have been waiting for a chance to bring him back out; which be soon due to the FA/ buff rumors that I've been hearing.
But anyways, anyone that ever does decide to make one, expect it to be a blast from lvl 1 to 50. Just don't expect much on the survivability side. =(

I have a 50 fire/ss tank, was my first tank and very enjoyable. Was actually fairly survivable when levelling as I was on a fixed team that had some serious aoe damage (and kin). I stopped playing mine as at the time no one wanted a fire tank for things like statesmans tf, and the 'loot run' of the time was croatoa tf which was a fire tanks worst nightmare.

Might be seeing a few more back ingame, as I hear FA got a few little buffs. I'll be dusting my Fire/SS/Pyre off after GR.
I stopped playing him a while back mainly because I felt other Primaries were much better to Tank with. I tended to play my FA/SS like a Scranker. Which is fine, but I eventually gravitated to sturdier alts when I wanted to Tank, or one of my Scraps if I wanted to scrap.
If fear will be removed from Burn, it should make more fun to play.
