Hi all, I was just wondering when the idea to remove the specific forum location dealing with technical issues was made. Did they also tell you where you could go instead? And could someone please point me to where I need to go to find the answer as to why the following happened:

I was running a mission when all of a sudden the game freezes (this has been an issue since I:16 but isn't very common so I've just dealt with it. Now when it freezes this time, a window pops up that says "CoH Update" only it's a blank white window over the screen, about 2" wide, 3.5" tall, and it has two toggle buttons on the bottom, like i can press something, only its white and there's no text, so i close the game out with task manager (using Windows7) and now when i try to log in, the updater just sits on "Connecting" Currently i'm up to connection attempt #12...

Where can I go to find information on this? And how can i get to the knowledge base? It's all screwy now

Well i tried to edit it to correct the Support misspell but apparently I can't so nevermind

City of Heroes Forums > English > Development > Technical Issues & Bugs

Where it's always been, as near as I can remember. You'll probably need a "CoH Helper" and "HijackThis" report for less fruitless question asking. Both Can be found in the common problems and posting guide sticky.

Indeed. It was in the same location even on the old forum's layout (except the "English" distinction).

I think the difference now is that we no longer see the names of the forums in each category (unless you use the link to the English subsection), and since people usually get help from other players in the Tech forum, that it would be in the Player Help section instead, and skip right over it.

Tech forum is still where it's always been.

For a possible solution to your problem though, try this:

1) Start a command window: Start/Run -> enter "cmd"

2) In the command window enter: "ipconfig /flushdns" and press enter

3) Repeat step 2 one or two more times

4) Also try entering "ipconfig /registerdns" after flushing, but this command will probably NOT work on Windows 7, depending on how you are setup. (you'll get a security warning).

5) Close the command window either with the "X button" or by entering "exit"

6) Restart the updater.

A lot of times, if you get a hard crash, the packet routing services get confused and things go a little wonky. Flushing your DNS forces the computer to re-request it's internet location maps and information. The above usually solves the hung updater for me.
