Your Thoughts / Feelings on the Merger...

Just read this earlier today, and just wanted to see what others thought about the upcoming changes in the 606 (if it will even still be the 606). Here's the full announcement if you have not read the other changes as well.

I think it's somewhat misguidied as the two are pretty separate...

Can't see it being a gigantically horrible thing though.

I just thought it was funny that one of their reasons for doing it is supposedly more exposure for the artists!!

I appreciate the fact that they asked for and listened to feedback before making any decisions. It's not as if they unilaterally made this decision and forced it upon us. It's not like they're having a pseudo-feedback period between stating their decision and implementation to make it seem like we have real input. It's not like the date for change is set in stone before the feedback period begins...

Well before the EU/USA forum merger the 2 forums were combined(though video editors didn't really show up that often in the old forums). I'm fine with it as long as we don't get spammers...

Yeah, not a big fan of it. I think they should be seperate sections of the forums.

Forumites will hopefully maintain clear titles on threads, so I can focus on whichever kind of graphic I'm in the mood for. Sometimes that is screen shots. We've had some good screenshot threads in the fanart forum before. I was not even aware a screenie forum existed, but awareness is not my forte.

Considering the thread in Comics Culture discussing this announcement was locked down by Mod12, expect this thread to suffer the same fate. They want all feedback in the official feedback thread.

IMO, I don't think that Media and FArt should be merged... the two mediums are completely different; Media requires a hell of a lot more guides and question-answering for one thing. And FArt is exceedingly active, which means Media posts will pretty much be drowned out and lost in the shadows, which is sad.

I've wandered in there before, s'alright, i think aggelakis makes a pretty vaild point. The thing is, I view the forums at work so i can't really watch movies...of course i'm not spose to check out the NSFW stuff either but it's 7:30 in the morning. Also no sound. So aside from pictures all other art is kinda wasted on me. It'd be a shame if the video folks got drowned in the shuffle of art, it's not fair to their efforts.

Guess we'll see how it happens.

I wasn't all jazzed up about the merger... but to not want it because Multimedia might bring in some meanies?! We get a lot more random people dropping by from the FArt Competition voting every month.

This board has gone through a number of influxes and outfluxes of people over the years. I think it can handle some extra random posts without an apocalypse.

And why should a new artist be treated like they don't know its the internet and have never realized that mean people often have access to it? Wouldn't it be more supportive if they do get trolled to say "Eh, you'll run into that, it's the internet. No need to overreact." instead of figuring they'll be scared off for all eternity?

Ok... So artists need to be protected from contests but not from the internet. Got it. Thanks.

I don't think the FArt section will be affected too much. We post a lot, so our current threads will be on top most of the time. The media peeps will be scrolling a lot to find their threads.

And maybe they'll give the thread starters new icons to use to help distinguish what type of content they are posting so we won't have to open each thread to figure it out.

I never dismissed you as not having worthy input... The sarcasm quoted above was merely meant to show how I don't quite get how you think one is bad but the other is harmless.

But you've obviously decided to take everything I say in the worst way possible, and have stated you believe me to be a liar, so I guess future attempts to communicate are really futile. *shrug*

You stated I called you a liar.... after quoting yourself exactly what I was referring to. In PMs and then that thread, every single comment you said to me was prefaced with "I don't mean to be <insult>, BUT..." Perhaps you don't realize this, but that "but" doesn't then mean you're not coming off as exactly whatever insult you started with. In fact, prefacing statements with that phrase is a big red flag that you're about to do EXACTLY that. That's not debating, and its not being civil, and that's what I got more than fed up with and called you out on. And "countering" any input I've ever given on a subject I honestly know more about with a parade of "I don't want to be a jerk, condescending, sarcastic, etc., etc." is dismissing that input.

I hate it when forum family fights. Run Video people, run!

I'm pretty new here to the boards. I've been trying to catch up on the environment here before I commented on anything. Now, just when I decided I could add my 2 cents to something, they are going to change up things for everybody . Maybe this is a good time to jump on board.

It seems that in addition to the merger, the increased regulations should hamper all the concern about additional mean people, trolling etc.

One of the things I wonder about though is the whole "bumping" and "necro posting" - aren't all the old artist threads considered old and instead of bumping your old thread with new stuff, it seems like the admins want you all to start a new thread every time you post new art related exclusively to the game. I think that would upset me more then the merger itself...
