A question about slotting Procs
Yes, you can slot both Decimation: BU proc and the Gausians: BU proc. They have different names. (Think purples for unique, can only slot one, but you can slot several uniques)
Procs that do damage, do damage. No they do not have to be slotted in the type of damage that they do. The chance for smashing damage tag just lets you know what type of damage will be done.
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

Thanks for the quick reply.

IOs can, and usually do, have more than one attribute. They all have a type, which tells you what sort of powers they can be slotted into. In this case, Decimation is a Ranged Damage IO and Gaussian's is a ToHit Buff set. They can also be procs or globals, or just regular single or multiple attribute IOs. They can also be unique, but that is a separate attribute from the other characteristics. So the fact that the two IOs you mentioned are ToHit Buff and Ranged types and procs has no bearing on whether they are unique or not, though as it turns out, both *are* unique in this case.
Hello,
I'm sure it's a simple answer but I can't seem to find it anywhere that states it clearly. Question #1: I have Decimation: Chance for Build Up (currently unslotted) I have Gaussians Synchronized Fire Control: Chance for Build Up (currently slotted under AIM) I take from reading that the therm Unique means no more than 1 can be slotted. However, these are called something different and slotted under different categories. Or are they the same thing and only 1 thing can be slotted or they both can be be slotted and have 2 different effects? |

Question #2: Do Procs that create certain effects (ie Unbreakable Constraint: Chance for Smashing Damage) have to be slotted under powers that have those effects, in this case something with smashing damage? Or is the proc just an enhancement for extra type of damage or effect? |

No, the charactertistics of a proc have no direct relation to where they can be slotted. Unbreakable Constraint is a Hold set, so you can slot it in any power that has that attribute. (Check the power description, it will say what sets can be slotted in it.) |
Could I slot another Decimation BU into another ranged power or does the cross the threshold of unique. Or does that Decimation BU proc have a "chance to fire" whenever any ranged attacks are used?
All very helpful info.
Thanks.

If the decimation proc enhancement is labled "unique", you can only slot 1 "decimation: chance for BU" enhancement per build. (In case you are wondering, if you like the set bonuses from the set, you can still slot the other 5 enhancements as many times as you have powers with available slots that take ranged damage sets)

The build up has a chance to proc only when the power it is slotted in is used.

What about when you slot a Dmg Proc in DOT attack. Does it check when the attack is first launched, or with every attack check of the DOT. Specifically I am thinking of the Ignite power, or Caltrop for that matter. Both power set up "zones" that make individual attacks every "X" period of time.

Ignite, I believe, will work the same way as caltrops. I have experience with a procced caltrops, and it works kind of funny.

As soon as you place the caltrops, it checks every enemy in range individually if they trigger the proc. Then, every 10 seconds after that, it does another check.
