Ambient Light?
In the star field look, someone suggested paneling the walls with black colored banners turned against the wall so the logo didn't show up.
My pet peeve is people who refuse to acknowledge it when I tell them my character has unlimited power. If I rp attack them they are of course disintegrated beyond the ability of any hospital or magic to restore. Yet despite this they refuse to delete their characters and still keep playing them as if nothing happened. ~Mandu, 07-16-2010
But I don't want black walls. If I did, I'd just color the walls black. I just want the ambient light reduced.
Ambient light is adjustable with the "lighting" tab found in one of the small windows while in edit mode. I believe it is the window that also shows the room stats, not the one that shows item stats.
There are 3 "areas" for ambient light; high, middle, & low. These areas correspond to the areas of the room that the light affects. The "intensity" is on a segmented slider that can be adjusted for each "area".
You can color your ambient light, or set it to black/grey/white and adjust your intensity from that point. Setting it to black/grey/white will allow your wall "paint" colors to remain true, since black/grey/white is really just another way to express the intensity levels of colorless light...
"Painting" the walls is done in the other little window (items & such), when you have your walls "selected". Coloring the ambient light will change the color of your "paint" and can make for some fun overlapping and color tweaking. Keep in mind that colored ambient light will also affect the highlights & shadows of the objects/items in your room.
ETA: there is not actually anything labeled "paint", I think the tab is labeled "color". I just use the term "paint" because to me it more accurately describes the effect and distinguishes it from "light".

You can adjust the room lighting options to darken things up a bit without making your walls black... you can even choose the color of the lighting, it doesn't have to be white light, it can be green, pink, whatever. you can also lighten or darken each lighting source by section (top, middle, bottom) and have them all different colors if you like, and of varying intensity. i'll drop an image as an example:

Dangit, Impish beat me to it while I was image editing XD
and yes, editing the lighting color can cast a tint on items/objects in the room
Doh! Will you believe I went CRAZY looking through those menus and completely missed that tab?? Thank you so much!
This is what I get for doing most of my base editing from 12-4am, I guess!
Personally after seeing RedLynnes base I turn off all of the lighting in my bases. I use the other lighting items (lamps etc), often hidden, to light my bases.

What really brought it home to me was right at the end of your wonderful tour when you turned the lights off. Just a before/after of that one room would be enough to incite anyone to light their base another way.

Interestingly, even the "working lights" have different color temperatures (yellow/blue color) and intensity levels. I do like using them for specific effects. I tend to set the ambient light for the room first, then use the "working lamps" to accentuate various sections or to create special effects.

I also tend to just use the black setting for all three light areas, and use lighting objects for illuminating the spaces.
Every once in awhile I'll use ambient lighting though, like if I'm trying for a "skylight" look or something.

I've been playing with the sliders in the style panel and can't quite figure it out...
How do I adjust the ambient light in my base? I want the colors where they are, but there's too much general light just streaming in. I've seen a lot of bases with some really dark, moody looks, making any light sources put in there very bright. Can that be accomplished without making the walls and floor black?
My base is an "outdoor/ruins" theme, the floors are green/blue (depending on if they're "grass" or "water") the walls are shaded slightly green and the ceiling is blue, all to give that whole foresty feel - I'd really like to keep the colors, but gosh, it's so bright!
Thanks in advance!
