Burn worth a damn anymore?

I am returning to the world of tankers after a long while away from the game and what little time i have been on has been spent with trollers. My question revolves around Burn. It used to be an extremely powerful attack back in the day then fear was bumped up to a point that mobs would run out of it ASAP. Coming back, is it still something to leave off a build or if you do take it should you be taking other powers to make it useful? (ie: caltrops)

I'm looking to respec my fire/fire/tank so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you had a different secondary, I would say it might be worth it, but with Fire/Fire you will probably better off not taking it.

If u were /Ice or /Stone then probably, but I dont take Burn anymore

I'm a little on the fence with Burn right now. I ended up dropping Burn on my Fire/Fire tank because it bugged me that the mobs kept running away in fear.

Conversely, I'm giving it another look/see on my Fire/SS tank and I'm not as bothered by the fear as much as I had been before. I've found that hitting burn at the right time gives me a bit of mitigation on the incoming damage. It's been helping the tanks survivability quite nicely.

I haven't checked out hero stats to see how it's performance compares to my other attacks.

Seeing how it's helped the Fire/SS I'm considering reworking it into my Fire/Fire tank's build.

With my Fire/Fire I can benefit from the secondary effect that is the afraid in Burn. I don't have much else that I could use in its place really. If they change it back I hope we can have a choice. I would like to have a different burn on each build.

FSC, Burn and then combustion should help you with using up most the damage out of burn as after combustion they run back in. You get that slight mitigation from it as well. Not to mention its a low end cost attack and not everything runs from it.

On my MA/Fire I found working to leverage Burn to be wasted energy. If I was teamed with a troller, then by all means burn 'em all, but solo it was just too much work for too little reward.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

I use it for IO set bonuses... Obliteration. Added recharge and melee& S/L defense.

I would hold off on using a respec yet and team with trollers to get use out it.

YMMV---IMO

Actually in the pve game burn is still a hell of a useful power for mitigation purposes.

Burn will add a small fear effect to mobs when you drop it, which will make them run a small distance then come back which basically halves your incoming damage, its great for big spawns.

I have a fire/fire brute and use it for the same purpose although I have had a tanker too.

Damage wise its really pretty pointless, its not bad as an IO mule but it really doesnt need many slots.

I've got a Fire/Ice tanker and Burn works pretty well when put down after Ice Patch. Ice Patch also gives a decent amount of mitigation because mobs can't attack while flopping about.

I imagine that Burn might have some use for scrapper who has Tenebrous Tentacles, though I haven't played that combination.

Also, some mobs aren't affected by the Fear component of Burn (like AVs, most of the time).

I realize that doesn't help you with your Fire/Fire tanker, but someone creating a new character might be able to take advantage of Burn under other circumstances.

Get Energy torrent from your epics, Torrent + burn + whatever other AoEs. It's viable, a secondary with mass knockdown like /stone, /ice or /SS works better but you can still leverage it.

This is the logic behind my friend's Fire/DB Tanker and my Earth/Cold Controller. I immobilize/slow and he burns em up.

yeah, make sure you have a troller with you when you use it. to bad you didn't have a fire/ss tank though. hit burn then foot stomp and it works pretty well.
