Revamping Travel Powers

Just a small suggestion, maybe revamping the running travel powers similar to ninja run. When you run backwards your character turns around and looks behind them or when you run sideways they face sideways.

you can already do this by changing the camera angle. but i haven't tried it in a while.

Ninja Run does that because they don't have a running backwards or strafing animation for it. Regular running does.

Personally, I find there is nothing more silly than running sideways or running backwards. It just makes people look like goofs when they do it. I much prefer a movement style where your character faces in the direction they are moving and simply runs. We had that for a while, but I guess too many people complained, so we're back to back-pedalling.

Still, this is exactly how Kheldian Dwarves run. Pity I can't throw a switch in Options and have my humanoids run like that, too.

When I'm backing up, I'm backing up on purpose, eyes front for a reason.. Turning around in those situations is contraindicated. If I want to turn around, I'm fully capable of doing so on my own.

I agree.

And when you're backing up you are doing so at a greatly reduced speed. In this case I'm refering to you, not your characters. This is because humans have knees that bend in one certain direction and it makes running at any speed backwards very dangerous and next to impossible. If you don't believe that, please give it a try and video tape it. Then post the vid to YouTube. I wanna watch. It'll be funny.

The same goes for characters in the game. It looks like crap. Now if they slowed way down to a more reasonable speed it would make much more sense. I would go for that, but I know most people would then complain about it as well.

Then again, I really don't care much either way. I just wanted to try to taunt you into making a video of you trying to run at a sprint backwards. The mental image I get of cracks me up.

Hee, fat chance. I don't even like running forward!

But, I'm not envisioning running for long distances backing up. I predominantly back up when I know there's an enemy nearby behind me that I want to bring into my field of vision, but I want to keep an eye on the other action in front of me. In those cases, I think the Ninja turn around looks dumb, like I'm doing all these spin moves for no apparent reason.

Well, then I certainly hope you have eyes on the back of your head, because tripping over an overturned chair, a street curb or a jotting sidewalk tile will then be more deadly than any enemy you're running backwards away from. And having fallen backwards and broken my wrist, I can assure you - falling over backawards is MONUMENTALLY more dangerous and much harder to brace yourself from than falling over forward from.

Additionally, if you're backing away from something, such as laying down suppressive fire and retreating, you are WALKING backwards. Not only is running backwards dangerous, it looks embarrassingly silly. What's more, when platoons are retreating, you have some people laying down suppressing fire and other, yes, turning around and running for cover. Running in a way the human body is not built to without looking where you're going is just asking for trouble.

Besides, facing in the direction he's moving never hampered the Prince of Persia, Devil May Cry's Dante or Crash Bandicoot. Running backwards is probably the WORST animation in the entire game and the worst concept in gaming history. It looks bad, it feels wrong and it's always clumsy and fudged. I can kind of see strafing, even though most people wouldn't strafe, but rather run forward and just look to the side, but backpedalling has no such excuse. It's just... Silly! AND it means I'm slower to move backwards than I am to move forward. Oh, yeah, seriously. Try it. Moving backwards IS slower than moving forward.

Speaking of silly...

In the game, silly! In real life I have peripheral vision that I don't have here, plus in the game I'm not gonna trip over anything, just stop.

Stop, stop, you're getting your hyperbole all over me! This is a new suit, darnit!

And as I said, the turn-around looks silly to me. It's an individual aesthetic thing there's not going to be a consensus on. Yes, I think running backwards in real life looks silly, but I think it looks just fine in the game.
