I'm not going to respond to every single relevant post, just some thoughts:

The CoT lore in CoV is rightly convoluted, since it all comes from the CoT or from the Mu. Neither would be particularly inclined to tell you the truth.

As for the CoT themselves, a good part of the confusion comes in when you don't differentiate between the Circle of Thorns and the Oranbegans. The guys you see walking around in robes with glowy green eyes? Circle of Thorns. Also known as meat puppets for the Oranbegans. Baron Zoria most certainly was (is?) possessed (you find his soul trapped in a crystal in the "Library of Souls" arc). The Oranbegans seek out those with the blood of Mu to possess because they're stronger in magic; presumably the higher-ranking Oranbegans get those bodies, while the redshirts have to make do with whatever they can kidnap. (I'm not sure whether the thorn-blade guys are possessed or not; the bios suggest they might not be but the glowy green eyes suggest they are.)

I'm not touching the Romulus/Requiem/I AM NICTUS thing, since time travel is only good for making messes and I don't enjoy playing Kheldians either.

Damn right, they're SHINY!

Actually, my favorite games are: The Silent Hill Series, the Legacy of Kain series, and my favorite TV show is Babylon 5.

Why? Story. BUT.

I enjoy the story for what it is, a story. A tale meant to both entertain and teach. If you get wrapped up in the minutiae and the details, you lose the bigger picture, and in my opinion, you kill the entertainment. The point of the story isn't when this happened or when that happened, or what size that starship actually is vs. what this other source says it is. The point of the story is to move people emotionally, and teach them general truths about reality and humanity.

This is why media are forms of art and entertainment, and not textbooks.

I think you are both wrong... it's in between both of your positions.

Zoria is definitely possessed - without spoiling more than this thread already has, it's made unmistakably clear during the Library of Souls arc.

I'm sorry, but any story which is overtly trying to teach me general truths about reality and humanity gets turned off as soon as I spot its agenda.

That's almost.... everything. Like, City of Heroes.

So theoretically Baron Zoria and a number of the first CoT are descendants of Mu and have not been posessed... however, all or most regular Circle of Thorns are possessed and could possibly be, but more than likely not, descendants of Mu.
Spoilers:

I don't think thats accurate, the contract is what they were told they were getting (and pretty much all iniates to the CoT get told), that the thorns would give them enhanced magical powers. Instead, the thorns rip out their souls and allow them to be possessed. Baron Zoria and the original CoT are completely irrelevant, they found Oranbega but never left it.

Always remember, we were Heroes.
