A veteran beginner
First of all, welcome back!
Secondly, I need a few more details on your part.
Do you like melee or ranged?
Do you like reducing the amount of damage that comes your way (resistance) or do you like reducing the amount you get hit period (defense)?
Tough characters or squishy ones?
Single target or multiple target (AoE) attacks?
Also, are you looking for a hero or villain?
My 50's:
Fiya Man: Fiya/ Fiya/ Flame Blaster -Protector
Ethros: Dark/Dark/Dark Defender - Protector
Ja-Ja: Fire/Kin/Earth Controller- Protector
Shadow Flux: Fortunata
Daily Forecast: Fire/Storm/Mace Corruptor- Infinity

Ranged or Melee doesn't matter to me
Again I never thought much about resistance or defense, but i guess resistance.
I like characters that have good damage output but can also defend themselves.
I like single target but a good aoe with it.
And hero or villian also is kinda not mattering, I haven't been devoted to either side!
Sorry if that wasn't a lot of help!
Scrapper or Brute.
For either, Willpower is particularly kind to beginners; be sure to take Indomitable Will, Rise to the Challenge, and Quick Recovery when they become available.

Willpower because it's a good set will do you fine, but will never be in any way unusual.
More offbeat recommendations:
FA/DM tank. This plays as a "heavy scrapper" and with 2 heals, 2 "consumes" and 2 "buildups" is really fun solo and small team. DM is almost AoE free, but FA makes up for that.
Stalker, the one I solod was ElM/EA but most work. For a stalker defence > resist though.
Night widow, a sort of claws/SR with a twist, easy to play, good solo and on teams.
It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba
I would like to recommend a fortuna.
You have single target damage, AoEs, Control, Team Buffs, and it is relatively easy to softcap with IOs.
In time, I'll come to forgive you.
I like Fortunatas a lot, but I would not recommend them as a "beginner" AT. They present many more options than any of the standard ATs, and while their peak performance is very, very nice, it takes considerable knowledge to fine-tune them into that performance. Although the level requirement for unlocking SoAs and Khelds has been lowered, I would still recommend leveling a non-epic AT before taking either one on.
If you want a character that starts strong and stays strong, with interesting powers unlocking at virtually every level, I would recommend a Fire/Radiation controller. They introduce you to a lot of interesting mechanics, including mez, buffs, debuffs, and pets, and they're strong solo and useful on teams. They're less robust in the face of mistakes than Scrappers or Brutes, though - they rely much more on tactical application of active defenses, rather than the automatic protection of armor powers.

I'm a little confused about the fortunata's and stuff,
The two hero classes, peacebringer and warshade, I can play.
But the two Villian classes widow and solider, I can't play, they are locked.
I don't have any heroes at 50 or anything like that either.
You must have a level 20 hero to create a Peacebringer or Warshade.
You must have a level 20 villain to create a Widow or Soldier.

Oh! Sorry I was misinformed, thank you very much!
Dark Miasma Defender or Corruptor will get you experience in many playstyles, many types of powers. Pets and drops, mezzes and heals, buffs and debuffs, blasts and stealthing, even -regen hose on AVs and GMs. You'll be survivable enough to get to 50 without frustration, then, you'll be able to apply the knowledge you've gained from Dark Miasma to any other character you can think of.
Scrappers and Brutes are a dime a dozen. Try a Controller. Take a look at my Illusion/Radiation guide, linked in my sig. It is one of the most flexible and powerful builds in the game. Fairly easy to play moderately well, not easy to play really well.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

I first started CoH in 2007ish, I have played of and on, and I still have not reached level cap. I am back to play this game and I have a question.
What Archetype/powers would be good for someone with a little more then beginner knowledge, BUT is somewhat unique?
I will be mostly soloing, because I am starting on a new server and will not know a lot of people.
Thanks for your help in advance!
