Idea: Environnmental threats
Maybe would have been better in the Ideas and Suggestions forum...?
But, regardless - I LOVE this idea! It should be technically possible, we've come across damage "patches" in maps (the Terra Volta reactor, the burning fire parts, the lava pits in Tyrant's cave come to mind) but whether it's feasible what with lag and bandwidth and so forth is another matter.
...another one I've just thought of that is actually up and running in the game already - the oil patches in Port Oakes! It's surprising just how fun it is to just skooch about on those patches for a while...

This is a really cool idea.
If we could negate some of the threats with our own powers, even better! Raging fire blocking your way? Let your cold defender/blaster/controller extinguish it! Some kind of rapidly-closing trap or door blocking a shortcut? Let the guy with Superspeed zoom through it and disable it! Transformer damaging your team? Overload it with electrical attacks, making it explode and wipe out nearby enemies!
You get the idea.

Yeah, this is one I'd like to see too. As I pointed out in that thread, there actually are a few currently in the game, like lava, but most of them only affect the players, not enemies.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I could care less.
[just thought I'd chime in.]
Though, I know there are places where the fire burns. The joke is that for the damage badges just stand there for a few hours.
Fire patches burn there are croatoa missions with smoke clouds that debuff. We already have exploding objects that cause damage.
All the tools are in place, just need to assign an object with an AoE aura that does something. Spawn rates might play games with the usability (just how the rikti dummies in the warzone aren't always there). Otherwise I'd think it is something that could be done with no new technology.
I'd think.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
Would it be bad to bump that thread you linked to? Better than starting a new one, right?
That said, the thought of a map where there are only a few enemies but *lots* of dangerous 'stuff' around to keep you busy extinguishing/disabling/tiptoeing around sounds interesting and at least somewhat adds variety.
Hmmm, long coiling low ceiling hallway filled with trip-mines and alarm sensors that will trigger if you charge in brainlessly. Answer: walk (we can do that now ) or phase shift.

I don't know if this has been brought up before (though I'd admit to being suprised if it hasn't) and I'm not entirely sure if this is the right forum for the discussion, but here goes:
How about making the environment in which we play a touch more... interactive. And by that I mean zones or areas that actually affect in-game play. Why not have ANY instance of fire deal DoT to anyone - hero, villian or critter - who enters it. Or perhaps those giant transformers pulse with occaisional significant bursts of energy damage for any unwary enough to be standing on one or immediately next to it?
I can just imagine eyeing Paladin, unsure if the group I'm with is tough enough to take it... but then noting how close he is to a transformer station and figuring if we can just lure him a little closer... well, you get the idea.
I like the dynamic the CoT crystals bring to certain missions and I don't see any reason why we can't bring that into the standard game a little more. Thoughts?
