Hey Castle, Can You Reduce the Recharge on Mass Confusion to 180 seconds?
What's wrong with Mind Control?
Nothing wrong with it per se. I still like it. But with Plant's recharge at just 60 seconds, it makes me wonder if Mass Confusion really needs to be set at 240 seconds.
Safety.

I just logged into the game and it's still 240 seconds.
Oh well I tried.
While Seeds is on cooldown, a Plantroller doesn't have a fast-recharging single target confuse available to spam in between. It's seeds or bust, when trying to confuse multiple enemies. Not saying I disagree with lowering the cooldown of Mass Confusion a bit, but the long cooldown isn't exactly that bad, especially in toons with very high recharge.
And as MentalMaden tried to bring up, Mass Confusion does not notify mobs of your presence. You can mass confuse the group, then single target confuse the boss and start ripping to shreds from perfect safety.
Where to now?

Yep I agree it's not the end of the world. Just hoping. The power does let you do your thing in relative safety... but I still think the recharge on it got bumped a bit over aggressively during ED.
I vote for lower recharge too! Primarily because of MC, I find that you just can't get enough global recharge on a Mind Controller.

great while solo... but if on a team it doesnt really matter unless your mind controller is the tank (which mine has played that role many times.)
YMMV---IMO

IIRC Jack Emmert's rationale, back in Issue 5, for halving the duration and doubling the recharge time of AoE mezzes, was that they set up the new Controller inherent, Containment, for extra damage.
Which didn't quite line up with reality, since AoE immobs (which most definitely do set up Containment) weren't changed, but cone fears and AoE confuses and Ice Slick (which don't) were.
I think Jack just hates crowd control. Any CO players able to confirm?
I haven't played all the sets in champions enough.. nor do I play champions enough..
But holds mostly only affect one person (save one or two maybe), and frankly you can't build a "controller."
So Jack hates the controllers maybe??
Oh... And he jumped ship to star trek like a week after the release..

I had heard that Jack dislikes controllers in general and mind controllers in particular as they are "villainous".
This is totally unsubstantiated, of course, but it's an article of faith on the controller boards
Reply to OP: Of course he can.
Well, Mass Confusion does have a lower chance to hit than Seeds, but has a greater range, and about the same area of effect. It also is a Psionic attack, which means it has no positional defense against it, while Seeds is AoE, with no typed.
I think the main thing is, though, Mind Control has Confuse in the same set, and as the devs have pointed out, they don't balance individual powers against individual powers. In the time that you can cast four Seeds of Confusion, you can cast one Mass Confusion and 30 Confuses. If Plant Controllers had to wait as long between recharges with Seeds, their ability to use the Confuse effect would be severely reduced. Whereas you could remove Mass Confusion entirely and Mind Controllers would still have Confuse. Which is in some ways more useful, since you get to choose the targets.
Add to that the ability to use it without alerting the foes, and I don't think Seeds is all that inconsistent. A Plant Controller can Confuse about twice as many foes as a Mind Controller (maximum of 64 in a 240s period, compared to 46) but the Mind Controller has more precise control over WHO he controls. And that's if you hit 16 different targets with every application of the AoE. I've found most people, myself included, prefer to keep Confuse to a minimum, so the occasional AoE, followed by keeping one foe locked down with the single target Confuse is more useful than just throwing them around willy-nilly.
YMMV, though, I guess. I suspect Plant Controllers, like Storm Defenders, live for the chaos.
I'm aware of the hazards about comparing Seeds and Mass Confusion. I just wouldn't mind Mass Confusion on a 180 second timer, and unlike a lot of things I'd want, don't think it would be particularly broken. It would mean Mass Confuse would recharge in about 40 seconds instead of 60 for my troller, which mainly means I have to click-click-click-click-click-click Confuse less often, since they are exactly the same power. While it would make the set somewhat more powerful, I don't think it would be outrageous. And it would still be three times slower than Seeds of Confusion with 60% less self-stacking (since both powers have the same mezz duration despite wildly different recharges.)
Don't be silly, this isn't the scrapper/tanker/brute forum.
I didn't think that would work. But I think in light of the game today it would be a reasonable move. The 240 second recharge on this power is really making me look at Illusion and Plant more and more and considering a reroll--not that I'm likely to just yet.
