Add a "chatbubble" channel?

The Doppelganger arcs gave me an idea - we now have a new passive channel that's used to simulate the communications you're getting through your earpiece, but it's not by default readable in chat {though you can add it manually - it's the one with the blank label}.

So, an offhand suggestion - add another channel, with the Local-ish range or lower, that shows up in chat bubbles, but not {by default} in the chat, and adjust the battle cries and other flavor text to show up there instead of local.

That way players would be able to spam inane {though entertaining} combat banter without clogging up the possibly important stuff in chat windows with it.

Just want to point out that we can't force players to use one channel over another. If superjerk wants to blather on and interfere with communications the only thing we can do to stop him is put him on ignore or if he's doing it in Team chat boot him for being disruptive.

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen people politely ask others to take their conversation to private or local channels and they got told off and berated for it.

I'm assuming the parties aren't saying anything petitionable.

I've wanted a way to add "Later, in Metropolis" or similar captions for ages...

I would also love if we could separate actions and thoughts so that when someone emotes "takes a drink" or some other action it doesn't show up as a thought bubble. It would be cool if it showed up as a square to the side of the character instead. "Superman kisses Lois Lane" - well, you get the idea.

Then thought bubbles could be made exclusive for actual thinking. Maybe with a /think command.

/think would be cool.

/think would indeed be very cool. Especially if it worked like this:

EDIT: Not the stance, but the chat bubble itself: rounded, with little circles so that thought is clearly delineated from speech.

I'm not talking about the emote, but the visual representation of the chat bubble. It's always kind of disturbed me that thoughts and action appear the same way that speech does.

That picture reminded me of something and it took me a bit to find it.

This is from MNP's old web comic.

In which he was mean to the people who gave me my name...cause he's a meaner...

ANYWAYS here's the pic

Now, in keeping with the OP's ideas of the chat channel for the various forms of communication, I wouldn't mind seeing something different visually rendered for that type of communcation as well.

I threw together the following mockup (which isn't ANYTHING like what he mentions--I just grabbed a Crimson headshot and one of his mission blurbs, but it should get the point across), to show would could be used as a kind of distinctive chat bubble for information coming across your headset or police radio ("A bank robbery is in progress!").

Two things of note: the satellite icon to show it's from a satellite communication system, and the "lightening strike" line that should help distinguish it from typical chat.

If memory serves, in older comics, electronic communications or urgent informtion was indicated in a chat bubble like this:

In either case, it would be awesome, I think if, all this type of chat appeared in visually distinctive chat bubbles, AND could be directed to a separate channel so you could read it like a narrative.
