Back... I think...

Ok... so I have come back after a long lay off. I played since beta and have played in total, with some time away here and there, about 4 +/- years. Few questions:

1) Why can I not use the new power sets? Shield, duel guns, etc are gray'd out for me?!?

2) Have the number of players diminished to nearly no one playing anymore? I have always played on Freedom and the place is dead. 1 or 2 people in the auction house... it use to be swamped. There use to be tons of people in PI... I could count the number on one hand.

3) I have always loved CoX and the new graphics are great, but did I come back to a dead game???

Guess I will see how soon someone responds... lol.

Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning are only for people who have pre-purchased (and once it comes out, purchased) the Going Rogue expansion.

Shield Defense is incompatible with certain powersets: Claws, Spines, Dual Blades, Katana.

Population is certainly not the highest it's ever been but the game is far from dead. Global channels are the best places to find teams these days.

First off, welcome back! Let's see what I can come up with...

1) Dual Pistols and Demon summoning are the new powersets with Going Rogue. People who pre-purchased it on the PlayNC Store get early access to these powersets. Shields are available to everyone, but they are restricted by some primaries due to engine limitations. Sets like Dual Blades and Katana cannot be used with a shield, since they are two-handed weapons.

2) While the population may have declined since the earlier days, one important thing to remember is this game is heavily instanced. Players are mostly inside mission, running story arcs, Task Forces and the like. Plus, all of the skyscrapers in the city limit your visibility, so it may seem all lonely in Steel Canyon, but there could be as many as ten teams running around doing missions in the same zone. PI is not exactly the farming wonderland it used to be. Everyone seems to have moved to the AE buildings for that. As for low number of marketeers, I blame the new market interface.

3) The game is by no means dead. The population has declined, but Going Rogue will surely fix that for the time being.

Hope that answers your questions. =D

Welcome back!

1) Shields can only be used with certain other powersets. It wont' work with claws, for example. Trying it with broadsword, axe, mace, martial arts, etc., should work. Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning require you to have pre-purchased Going Rogue for early access to them.

2) There are lots of people around on Freedom adn Virture especially. The problem is that there is a much greater number of high-level zones than there used to be. I remember when everyone was in PI too, but now there is the Rikti War Zone, Cimerora, the AE Buildings, and so on. Maybe try one of the OOC channels that focuses on finding teams?

3) Nope. Number are down a little bit due to various things, but the boxed expansion - Going Rogue - will be out shortly, and should help perk things up. Even still, I don't have any problem finding a team.

What they said, but if you're expecting the population of CoX's heyday you can forget it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I didn't even know an expansion was coming out or for that fact, the graphics had been upgraded... just felt like playing CoX again and brought some friends with me. Good to know because I have been waiting for a duel pistol set!

Maybe it was a glitch, but duel blades and claws was grayed out on brutes for me and so was shields even when I chose a single handed weapons like axe. I closed the game out and not grayed out anymore.

I was around when the rikti war zone came out... I will have to check out the newer areas.

Thanks again.

Yes, it's a lot different from the days of old where street sweeping was common and crowds of players hung around the tram stations looking for teams.

Global channels and super groups have done away with crowds of players looking for teams standing around in one spot.

Super-sidekicking has virtually eliminated the need to find teams of particular levels.

Travel between zones, especially on the hero side now have multiple alternatives than simply taking the tram or traveling to a gate.

Power as well as zone changes have reduced hospital runs of old. For instance the Hollows now have it's own mini-hospital so you won't see low level players running from the Atlas hospital to the Hollows every few minutes. Same is true with the new Faultline which now has a great set of story arcs.

Low level temp travel powers have made it so the sub level 14 crowd no longer need to hoof it everywhere.

Changes that introduced halving of in mission debt coupled with mission completion bonuses moved the action from the streets into instanced missions.

The result of all this is a quite noticeable reduction of characters flittering from here to there. You can find some crowds in the consignment markets trading but the sense of a zone being chuck full of characters is now, sadly, a thing of the past.

Most of those tons of people were farmers and power-levelers. Changes to side-kicking have eliminated a lot of that, plus a lot of it has moved to the AE buildings.
