DP/Dev S/L Softcapped Build
I prefer positional Defense, specifically Ranged for Blasters.
S/L Typed defense is less beneficial, IMO.

Going with S/L over ranged defense on a blaster just screams
"Mez me I love to be Mezed"
I can certainly see the arguments for wanting to spec for ranged defense, but isn't it exceedingly difficult if not impossible to soft cap or almost soft cap any positional defense with a blaster?
I picked S/L defense as they can be soft capped without sacrificing too much on the offense/recovery side of things, by taking advantage of the only real consistent Defense-oriented of the blaster EPPs--Frozen Armor. Also, most of the things I tend to run such as the ITF or Freak AE missions are very S/L heavy. With regards to Mez, well, I guess I've always found it to be a blaster's kryptonite, but that's why I took Acrobatics to at least lessen the chances of hold and knockback.
As a DP blaster who greatly enjoys using Hail of Bullets, and with the vast vast majority of melee attacks having a S/L component, S/L defense seems to provide the most bang for the buck. In groups, I also find that defenders almost invariably hang out close to the tanks and scrappers, so if I want in on the buffs (especially those tasty Kin buffs like FS) then I need to stay pretty close to melee range.
If there's a build out there with nearly soft-capped positional defense while yielding good offense/sustainability of dps, please post it! I'd love to see it, and even use it.

My City Was Gone
I figured I'd post my planned build just to share the love, and also garner advice from experienced soft-cappers. This would be the first build that I actually attempted to do that, so I'm sure by no means is it perfect. I also intended for this build to be semi-affordable, as I only have so much time to play in a day. My one disclaimer for "semi-affordable" is that I actually managed to purchase a Panacea proc with a character that's been around for quite a while.
