Hamidon listed in 1up's "13 Dumnass boss battles"
Are you French? The jokes are what it's all about!
Some people just don't know how to have fun and so they gotta rain on everyone's parade. |
And not going to Hami raids because you happen to find them boring is nothing like raining on anyone's parade.
I did the old hami raids twice. I didn't like it -- there were quite a few ATs who had little or nothing to do during the raid.
I like the new raids a lot more. I do agree with Leandro, the new hami has good mechanics but as a boss encounter it's not so interesting. But it's 53 merits and can be finished in as little as 30 minutes on a good day. Good days vary wildly -- the monster hunt can go on forever or be over very quickly, the raid itself can go like clockwork or become a long, drawn-out, painful process depending on who's shown up that day. But on a good day on Virtue, you get hami to spawn quickly, you run evacless, and you fight through the final mito spawn and it's over remarkably fast. Then they do it again, and sometimes a third time. ^_^

Hamidon belongs on this list
Well I am a huge fan of this game so I say this with care. But, I would have put just about every AV and GM fight in City of Heroes collectively on the list of dumb boss fights. This game has a lot going for it but boss encounters are not one of them.

Never done a Hamidon raid, never will. When thirty minutes spent beating on an enemy counts as good time, I know that's time I'd rather spend elsewhere. Think of it as less competition for spots.

Someone say Hamidon?

Done both versions a couple of times, and the new version is vastly superior to the old version. Still, I don't really have much interest in the encounter.
Hamidon's rewards just aren't enticing enough to get me into the Hive. I'd rather just run an STF or LRSF with my friends. Roughly the same rewards, only I can actually run one myself with the group of folks I regularly play with instead of advertising for participants and later dealing with leechers.
If Hami were instanced and could be beaten with 8-16 players using equal mixes of all the ATs, I'd be all over it. They'd need to up the rewards slightly to make me actually want to join up to a Hami raid as they currently are.
Of course, others may really enjoy the social and tactical aspect of herding 25+ players like that, and that may be enough for them to have fun with it. Not me, though - different strokes, I suppose.
The Ballad of Iron Percy
Griefing would be when a tank would walk into the group of controllers and taunt Hami, thus wiping the entire group.
