Help me with stun! Please!
Special IOs (Aegis Status Resistance, etc.), IO set bonuses. Otherwise, nope. Break Frees are your friend.

Aid Self grants some stun resistance too, although not protection.

Do you have and are you using Fearsome Stare? It's got a decent -tohit debuff that lasts a bit. So as long as you are able to get it off before getting stunned, you'll have a margin to live through the down time.
On a personal note, I have Air Superiority set on auto-attack. I Ctrl-Tab to target the nearest approaching foe and as soon as I get out of the mez, AS will go off immediately and bounce him. While he's getting up, I have time to use 1-2 powers (depends on animation). With Air Superiority on auto-attack, I can keep any foe up to and including some EBs permanently bouncing while I beat the crap out of them. No other power has saved me from defeat as consistantly as Air Superiority and all it needs is just 2 accuracies and an optional 1 recharge.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
I have the same concern with my troller - trying to run him through mobs that are for equivalent to a team of 3. My guess is that I will have to work on defense bonuses from IO sets, etc.

But you are, of course, right... the best way to protect against stun is to keep the mob shaking in his boots or bouncing on his head. The beauty and satisfaction of AS is hard to overstate.
Use the knockback from Dual Pistols to keep them off you.
I'm a Dark/DP defender, and I'm wondering if anybody has any advice on protecting myself from stuns while I am soloing. Stuns are particularly bad for me, because if I get stunned, my Darkest Night goes down... the one that was laying a -30% to to-hit debuff against the toughest foe in the spawn... who is probably standing right next to me... and who is probably a Freak Tank who stunned me in the first place (taking half my hit points in the same blow).
I carry a bunch of "break frees", but unless I use one BEFORE I think I MIGHT get stunned, they're no good for keeping DN up. I also try not to stand next to Freak tanks. But is there any sort of protection -- for a Dark/DP soloist -- similar to the KB protection you can get from a few different enhancements? Again, stun resistance is no good because the DN still goes down and I still get squashed with Mr. Tank's second blow. I have a suspicion the answer is "eat a break free when you can't afford to get stunned, and otherwise just suck it up," but I figure it's worth asking, and I appreciate any insight people have. Thanks! |
The Dual Pistols mez (Suppressive Fire) is listed as a stun, but if you switch your ammo type it becomes a hold, and will stack with Petrifying Gaze from your primary. 2 holds will mez a Freak Tank, and while he's mezzed he isn't mezzing you.

You don't have stun protection available to you when you solo. However, you can layer your debuffs and controls so if DN drops for a second you are not auto-screwed. Use Fearsome Stare (enemies attack less often and at a significantly lower ACC), Fluffy (who has his own slew of -ACC debuffs and controls) and Petrifying Gaze (have to stack that to get it to work on bosses but it can take out Malta Sappers which are similarly problematic).
This is more of a problem for Rad defenders, since their -ACC is in one toggle. But the answer there is similar; proactively control the enemies that are likely to stun/hold/sleep you.

Proactive use of BFs
For mezzing bosses I use breaks proactively and as needed with others. With my /DM corruptor I use fearsome stare and petrifying gaze a lot.
I also make use of set IOs:
Status resistance bonuses: 6 slotted Adjusted Targeting, Aegis: Psionic/Status Resistance, Impervious Skin: Status Resistance, and so on.
In ranged damage powers (especially the ones I use most) I try to add a few Devastation: Chance for Hold. They're rare and expensive but pop up enough if you have a few alts. If you can hold the boss he can't hit you.
For Darkest Night you may have to 3 slot with recharge IOs.
Also, you can work on your defenses so you have less chance to get hit by the stun in the first place.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
