Mask Presence...really?

So if you're running a NW or Fort and you choose PP Stealth over Mask Presence, does it still give you the "hidden" icon under your HP bar?

Is the only difference between the two powers the slight -speed and a little more end. cost?

no. Mask Presence has a higher stealth rating, as well as a higher defense rating. It also uses way less endurance, .21 versus .32 base, and also has an attribute bonus so that you keep more defense when discovered.

If one uses PP stealth, will powers like Slash still critical from "hide"?

No. Mask Presence gives the specific "hidden" status, and stealth the pool power, stealth IOs, Super Speed, Group Invisibility, etc. do not. The only ways to get "hidden" status is 1) take a Hide/Mask Presence power and 2) use Placate.

... my head is actually hurting from this question. You seriously took a POOL POWER over a NATIVE POWER that is BETTER in every single concievable way?

To directly answer your question: on a stalker, critical strikes do not activate from Pool Power Stealth. I'm going to presume that the same is true for Soldiers of Arachnos.

I, however, am not going to waste a respec, even on the test server, to verify this.

Only time I'd ever take Stealth on a Widow is to unlock Phase if you're a PvP-built Fort. (Possibly on a PvP-build Widow but I'd be running Mask Presence instead of Stealth or just take Grant Invis.)

Learn to read.

I never said I took the PP stealth over Mask Presence. I've forged a PVP build with phase and I'm trying to see if I can bypass having to have two stealth powers on the same build so I can free some other useful powers.

Learn to post in the correct forum then. There's an entire Forum section for this question: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=598

His post is fine here, not sure why you are getting so upset. His question would be just as valid if he were a pve player seeking phase shift on his build as well.

And for that reason it is an acceptable post to have outside of the pvp forums. Try not to be so mad.

I don't think the words "valid" and "pve player seeking phase shift" should ever be used in the same sentence.

Then again there's those fully ranged Bane builds with none of the -res debuffs...

I'm going to lie down and rock back and forth in this corner now if you don't mind.

This question comes up a lot for VEATs and Stalkers so I'd like to clarify:

HIDE IS NOT INHERENTLY RELATED TO STEALTH.. The confusion comes up a lot because Hidden status is only attached to powers that also provide stealth. Stealth prevents enemies from detecting you and is therefore required for Hidden status to be any kind of useful because Hidden status will be cancelled if the character takes damage from a foe. Hidden status is simply a flag that tells the game to provide an automatic crit to the next attack made and then cancel the status.

That's why only Hide, Placate, Mask Presence and Cloaking Device cause crits. Because only they confer Hidden status. They also provide stealth as a means of preventing the user from being detected, attacked and dropped out of Hidden status. The two are together because of synergy. They aren't inherently or mechanically linked to one another. Thus, taking any other form of stealth will not cause crits.
