Bidding / market delays result in multiple purchases
So give the market a little extra time?

Thankfully we now have personal banking, which means I won't be hurting as much from not using the market.

C'mon, giving the market a bit of time isn't a viable workaround. There's no telling whether you have to give it 5 seconds or 50 seconds. But I'll try.
When I get into the groove of building recipes, buying IOs and buying salvage I bid, cancel and rebid pretty quickly otherwise it makes an already long task longer.
Oh, I didn't get that IO for 6 million, cancel, lets bid 7 million, cancel, 8 million. I shouldn't end up getting all 3 and spending 21 million on it. The 6 million should've gone through or at least acknowledge the fact that I cancelled the earlier bids. If it removes the line item from the screen it should truly cancel it.
I'm going to bug it because I think there should be checks in place to prevent this from happening.
Also I think there was a time or two where this happened with the old market but it was extremely rare. I'm using the market for the first time today since i17 and this has already happened 4 times to me.
Grrrrrr!
When you notice that you have market UI lag you should be really really careful or better avoid the market at all.
I usually have the market messages up in a window and used it as confirmation that the bid or the drag and drop took.

Same here, Father Xmas. I clicked on the 1 to open that tab, named it System Monitor, assigned it System, NPC, and Auction House channels, detached it, and placed it over my power trays. If I don't see my bid as having been canceled there after clicking the button, I wait for the system to catch up, and show it being back in the AH UI. If it doesn't, I'll bid 1 Inf on something, and that usually forces a refresh and makes it reappear.
The market has been doing this since it first debuted in Issue 9.

What Father X-mas & Kheldarn said.
There is a whole thread detailing the problems with the new market UI in the market forums, and this is a main complaint. There is speculation that it is a result of imput delay/lag, and it seems to be a variable amount of time.
Workaround for the moment is to keep eyes on the system chat to be sure that your actions are actually registered in the system. Hopfully, they will address this issue soon (not "soon" tm).
PS...
Could somebody PM me on how to do sub/super scripts?
I'm sure it's obviously simple, but I could never figure it out.

I've seen times where the delay was much worse than now. Maybe it's time for a new hamster in the market server.

I've confirmed watching the messages is a great workaround for this problem. Another interesting note is that if there is delay (hitting cancel doesn't show that you've claimed the money off of the market), bidding a 2nd time with say 5 influence will call the "cancelled" item back up as well.
What does this all mean? Watch the messages and make sure your bid is actually cancelled before re-bidding.
Again, thanks for the suggestion FX and K.
I bid on something, I don't win it so I cancel it. I put in another bid and I win. I then end up winning the first one I cancelled as well.
This has happened to me several times, fortunatley it hasn't yet happened to me on a multi million inf purchase.
