Bug or WAI?

I recently created my first SOA and noticed something odd.

I can shoot without being rooted. I can run and gun like it's a FPS.
Instead of stopping to fire and then moving again I just keep on trucking
and firing at the same time.
Having played blasters for 6 years I know this isn't something that should be happening. Unless it's unique to SOA.

So, thats my question. Is this a feature of SOA's that I hadn't heard about? If not should I /bug it since it's been 3 days and it's still happening. I'll add that it's the only toon it happens on and when I made a
second SOA just to see if it was a fluke it was possible on the new one too.

Your still rooted. The first attack at least (and grenades) have very short attack animations though. So you can fire, then move really quickly. Heavy Burst and Burst will root you for longer.

Yeah I thought it was a matter of perception.
Until I realized it happens with the blackwand and Nem staff too.
Even with the bugged 'pull from the ground' animation I'm still moving.
Makes it look like I'm dragging it through the ground.

I should get Heavy Burst tonight so I'll see if it changes.

Nope. The tier 1 & 2 attacks don't root you at all as a Soldier. Not even the slightest pause if you fire while moving. Heavy Burst (dunno about later attacks - my SoA's only L9) roots you, however.

Whether or not it's all working as intended or not... *shrug* Not a clue.

Funny, when I use the first few attacks while running around (say kiting Silver Mantis) I find I always stop to shoot.

I was pursuing a marcone runner the other day and burst fired off while I was running after him. It was really satisfying cause I have the rifle model B, which really looks like an SMG.

I gotta head to the bank (and get some food), but I'm gonna test this once I get home. And when the servers are back up if their still down.

EDIT:

Ok, I'm testing now. Buh, this is new. I think it's a bug. Sometimes I am rooted, others I'm not. But before issue 17 went live I was always rooted with attacks.

I say don't let them change it then! It's fun closing in, firing as you do, then pummeling them when you get in range! It just fits a soldier.

Not quite working that way though. When I'm strafing it seems to ignore the rooting. Going forward/backward still roots.

Activating burst while going back and forth still roots you? Odd, I could've sworn it didn't root me when I was chasing that runner. Maybe I was going diagonally but I don't think I did.

Anyways, it's a bit off topic.

I believe this is a bug. I saw it reported a long time in BAB's animation thread that sometimes the rooting was being ignored when using a ranged attack. I noticed this first on my AR Blaster, and now that I've been focusing more on bringing up my Huntsman, it's happening there as well.

But the gun attacks for Soldiers do seem slightly off from the AR ones. Frag Grenade seems to take longer to animate than M30, even though they have the same cast time. I know, because my AR Blaster loves opening with M30 for some mitigation, then letting loose with Full Auto. Full Auto usually starts in just after the M30 explodes on the target, while there is a longish pause after Frag Grenade goes and before Heavy Burst will kick in (a second or so, but it's noticeable).

AFAIK, the devs have said each power needs some rooting, so I do not think this is working as intended.

You are rooted if you fire while standing still and attempt to move during the firing... (and, as noted, if you fire while already in motion, it doesn't root)

I've been noticing this ever since around i16 or so. My Peacebringer regularly can move around during the animations of stuff like Incandescent Strike, which looks really weird. There doesn't appear to be any sort of trigger for it.

Jump canceling works in pve to. You can youtube search for a demo of it think.

Duel me.
I will work on my sig pic more when I have time.

I was going to PM Back Alley Brawler to see what is supposed to be what here, but then I remembered that he turned his PMs off. So... I summon Back Alley Brawler to this thread! *looks around hopefully*

It's Arbiter Kim's job to collect bug reports and forward them to the appropriate pople/departments.

Oh, I know that, but BAB is the guy that does the rooting and animation stuff, or at least has the final word on it.

I noticed this early in the beta, but I didn't really want to report it. I knew someone more virtuous would eventually report it for some reason, so I'd just enjoy the running and gunning while it lasts. And yeah, it's a glitch.

It's been around longer than I17, and there have been other threads about it (I would also imagine it's been bugged before, too). I know I have posted about it in other threads. It's a bit awkward looking, too, so it would be better for it to work right as well.

Jump cancel has been out for ages, yes. However I'm pretty certain that running cancel is a "feature" of i17, because I play my bane alot and I haven't been able to do it before this issue. Atleast for SOA's, don't know about AR.
