i17 Connection Issues - Could It Be Wireless?!?!
Another update...
Playing around with it a bit more, I found that the conflict seems to be a three-way interaction between wireless, audio and the game. If the game sound/music volume is set above zero or any other audio source is active (like an mp3 player in the background, for instance), the connection goes bad. Set the game volume to zero and the connection problems go away. |
I changed the sound settings, but didn't log out and back in after I did so.
The first time I logged in with both sound settings at 0%, I was able to play the game fine. A couple of lost packets here and there, but no LCTM, no disconnects - nothing but playable game!
I think you and I have different rigs, but if the same solution worked for both of us, maybe whatever we have in common can help Support zero in on something specific for engineering to work on?

You guys are doing great. Doing a fair bit better than tech support I would say.
So if there really was a rep button (or perhaps I just can't find it) I would be upping the lot of you.
I hope someone from Tech Support or the Devs are watching this thread as it is providing some good REAL WORLD info that should help them. I gave up on tech support - their "Its your fault" mantra was getting really old.

I had this exact same problem, netgraph was red spikes all over.
I had this problem but solved it!
If you are like me and using Windows 7, the culprit may be a new network feature that was introduced with Vista called Task Offloading.
It's possible something in i17 suddenly caused a small problem to turn into a big one.
Before this fix, like others here, when i17 came in I suddenly found myself getting lost packets every few seconds. My netgraph was covered in red spikes.
I did a bit of googling and found out that this Task Offloading was added in Vista and standard in Win 7, and it sometimes causes problems like this when the network card cannot cope with the offloaded tasks for some reason. You can turn Task Offloading off using the short guide on the following page: http://www.windowsreference.com/wind...-in-windows-7/
I should note that using the commandline was not enough in my case, I had to go into my network adapter's advanced settings and manually turn off everything that had the word "Offload" next to it.
When I got into the game afterward, netgraph shows nothing but a nice solid line of green.
(split into two posts to bump the thread so people see it)
Could those of you experiencing this issue try the build on PTS and see if you're still having trouble there? Please let me know.

Don't know what else may have changed under the hood but the difference that I can see is the game now runs at Normal (8) priority when it has focus.
I just gave it a try--turned up the music and sound effects, zoned a few times, did a little street sweeping in PI. It cleared up all my previously reported symptoms. Game, sound and wireless all playing nicely together, smooth green netgraph. Added a little multitasking stress just to be sure and it handled it just fine.

Public Test Server, and "the build" means "the game version". In this case, a game version from the test server from over a year ago. Necroooooooooooooooooo poooooooooooooooooost!

Well due to some advice in this thread I started messing with MY sound and for me disabling 3D sound and setting sound to compatibility seems to have mostly solved my over 1000 ping problem. Now I'm back down to 200-400. Bah NM I went to WW in Atlas and shot back up to 1000+
BAH anyway add me to the list of people that are getting major lag after i17
Can't team or even move around for crap.
Apparently I'm to stupid right now to make an awesome link with a picture and stuff but neverthelss sign the petition! [u]http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...city-of-heroes[u]
