Crackdown Crackup with lines by Ardian Syaf!

What's cooler than getting a Hugo Award nominee to draw your City of Heroes character with this much detail? Getting a Hugo Award nominee to draw your character gratis because you managed to grab a screenshot of his 50,000th page view shortly after he made a very generous offer. It took awhile to get but you can't argue the price or these results. Ardian is aces!

The basic idea is a "normal" hero after the big fight with a single tear rolling down his cheek. Is it just from the massive pain or did the case go that wrong? Crackdown ain't saying and I wouldn't ask!

Extra special link provided directly to the artist's dA page above for those of you who loath visiting my page first.

I definitely used up most of my luck for 2010 getting that screenshot.

Yeah, I wanted to do one like this for a long time and the opportunity came along just at the peak of the desire. I'm so glad it worked out.

That is my plan, VexXxy. Unfortunately, my commission buying is probably going to be down this year - considering getting a house - and this is definitely a piece that I would want to keep the talent involved top notch. It'll happen but I can't say when.

Maniac Mime by Mike Luckas!

Another pretty good example of a good value commission over on deviantART. I got this one in exchange for the purchase of a year's membership to the site for the artist. It took awhile to get but I'm pretty pleased with his take on my insane character.

It did take awhile though - he'll be needing another in 3-4 months. Some of you dAers may want to keep an eye out for the offer.

Thanks VexXxy!

I have to give 100% of the credit on that to Taghuso's original Maniac Mime piece as he invented a few things that will be part of the instruction for any further character art. He came up with the pommels, the fact that her blades are named 'Tragedy' and 'Comedy', the sheaths, and the French flag buckle. I'm at work and can't really work up a proper link to his dA page but you can find his original MM piece in my gallery.

Thanks to another friend, I realized that a macro button of the 'assume the position' emote rapidly clicked does a creditable 'trapped in a box' miming routine. Still, I'd pay $20.00 for a clown/jester/mime booster pack with a more appropriate emote.

Janet Planet by Robert Porter!

This one was a bit of a waiting game but I'm very satisfied with the results. I love Robert's style for female characters and I think he hit that delicate balance of Elvgren Girl and Little Annie Fanny just perfectly here. He nailed Janet's personality and I like his spin on the costume.

I did wait for this one for awhile but he seemed to have a little trouble really getting something going that he liked for the character. He always communicated with me promptly when I checked in with him and I can't fault the end result. I'd recommend him to fellow art collectors based on my experience because I think he will definitely complete the work. It just might take a little while.

all I can say is I wish I had the cash to afford commissions (or the tallent to draw better then I do) these are quite nice.

Personally, that's all I ever ask - Communication. I am loathe to try to rush artists and it's not like anything I ever got had a reason to have a deadline, so I don't mind wiating at all... As long as there is communication. A note or email every couple of months... Or at least a reply when I do ask for a status or update.

Anyway - awesome art. I have always loved the JP character!

It takes a certain level of careless disregard for proper money management.

I get "similar" offers in-game from time to time... but almost never in real life. Oh, if those ERPers hitting me up as Janet flies by could see the mass of manly humanity at the helm!

Yeah I was going to mention the too small and wrongly shaped holster and the fingers being too small & some knuckle-less
but really there is so much to like about this piece that I can still enjoy it after noticing that stuff.

*Wanders off to explore what else is new in Rob's DA gallery*

Janet is definitely just dim enough to accessorize with a holster that would never hold her proton pistol. Form over function.

I noticed the hand too but figured that Janet's people - the Idio - have surely developed such fine-boned fingers and hands to seemingly lack anything so gauche as knuckles. I mean, knuckles are soooo 21st century.

It's brackets [ ] not greater than/less than < > for the syntax. And yeah surely a relic of a bygone era.

I know but I get them confused flipping back and forth from dA to here. I usually preview to make sure I didn't flub up but I was also multi-tasking here at work. I'm surprised I spell anything correctly, honestly.

Reversed for me heh.
I tend to get it right here and mixed up on DA.

Good thing they have a preview function cuz post's are
permanent over there (no editing after the fact but, though I
don't know how, I think there is a way to hide the comment altogether).

I mix up both. If I'm posting a lot here and flip over to dA, I use the brackets when I should use the <>. If I'm posting a lot there and come here, the reverse happens. The main thing I carry over from dA is their emoticons. I cannot tell you how many times I typed  or :highfive: or  into these forums. Fortunately, I always seem to catch it.

Of course, you can do this if you're really committed - - but who has that kind of time?
