Hi guys, I am looking to make a new controller but I am not sure what is the best to go for

I haven't played in a while, but when I used to play, I enjoyed playing Fire/Kin

but I would like to try something new if possible
I have heard that Fire/Rad is okay but people still seem to talk alot more about Fire/Kin

how well does Fire/Rad compare to Fire/Kin? and would Fire/Rad work at all in PvP?

also, how much will it cost to make a decent budget IO build for a controller?

I am not looking to be filled with purples, just something which will only cost a few bill if that is even possible (maybe 2-3?)

if anyone could post a build then that would be great

Thanks!

First, let me say welcome back. It's good to see folks returning to the game.

Fire/Rad is an excellent combination. In fact, it's one that, if built correctly, can solo a few AV's. It's also a very good team player. It doesn't pair up with the speed of a fire/kin for farming, but it does defeat foes quite quickly for a controller and offers a good deal more safety. A team of fire/rads holds the record for speed on the Statesman's Task Force, if I recall correctly.

Right now, there's another thread that has a few builds posted in it that you may want to check out: here. And there's some good advice given here and here. It may also interest you to know that there is currently a super team going on Freedom for Fire/Rads. Get in touch with Hyperstrike for more information about that.

As for your budget, for a few billion you should be able to build a fairly decent build. There are a few things that may be suggested that are particularly expensive, such as the Miracle: +Recovery proc, that you may wish to purchase outright with merits.

Edit: I decided to go with Fire/Kin lol

I actually like my Fire/Rad over my Fire/Kin. Fire/Kin is very good at killing off large numbers of lower level foes. This is why it is preferred by the Farmers. However, my Fire/Kin dies a lot more than my Fire/Rads. Fire/Kin has little defense and the secondary adds buffing to damage and speed instead of more control and debuffing. Fire/Kin is also very late developing -- it doesn't really become good until you get your level 32, 35 and 38 powers.

Fire/Rad is more flexible and durable -- I liked my first one so much, I made a second Fire/Rad on another server. The key to a Fire/Rad is the synergy between Hot Feet and Choking Cloud. It doesn't kill as fast as the Fire/Kin, but it lives longer and things still die pretty well. One huge advantage in low levels is Fire Cages + Radiation Infection -- RI has a big ToHitDebuff, so they can't hit you much. Fire Cages makes it so that the foes can't move. Together, those powers are almost a hold. Fire/Rad works great solo and on teams.

And a team of Fire/Rads is the strongest team in the game for most content. Simply amazing.

I am looking for a group char for end-game stuff really, leveling in the early levels doesn't matter too much, and everyone loves fulcrum

True, but everyone loves a /rad too.

Both sets are great, but the Fire/Rad is the better overall character. Fire/Rad is better at the low levels (both in terms of damage and control). It is better on teams for the most part. It has more utility and versatility. It has greater control. Fire/Rad can simply handle more content in the game. Fire/Rad has more of the things people generally want for fighting end-game content (tough AVs, etc).

Both are fun, however.

Keep in mind that if you go Fire/Kin some people will assume the worst about you. It's pretty much the calling card set for terri-bad players. Obviously not everyone who plays it is like that... but you get a lot of people with that combo because they heard it's "the best." It's popular with the sort of people who like to wipe your team while informing you how awesome they are. Don't let that affect your decision to play it, just be prepared for the assumption when you join a team.
