Six years.... Where have the time gone?
I joined in Issue 7 and I've had a blast. This game was a birthday gift for me. I probably would have not gotten in this game myself, but I'm glad I did. Met a lot of good players here. I'll be joining ya'll for Issue 17.
Home server: Guardian
My 50s: 3 scrappers, 2 tankers, 1 blaster, 1 defender, 1 controller, 1 warshade, 1 stalker, 1 brute, 1 corruptor, 1 widow, 1 dominator, 1 mastermind (on Liberty)
Current project
Has it really been that long? It only seems like yesterday that it was Issue 16.
came in dec 27th 2004 as coh was my xmas gift....wasnt willing to pay 50 bucks for it at the time...lol
i still remember my first teammates in the game in the hollows. it was me, emerald canary, street fighter and dazzler.ahhhh what times!
i remember wondering where all the higher lvls were after brickstown to. then got to 36 and hit the asn and went AH HA! there you all were!
i even remember my first karaken farm...i was the tank and they said go get the kraken.i said ok and i went over and punched the hydra right between the eyes and said "take that punk!" and then he punched me...whoops theres some debt!
perma hasten just by slotting 6 recharge s.o's
being able to have 5 phantasms!
when burn was actually worth taking :P
Remember...
The old train system... Where the train took you to the next stop on the route. If that was not your station, you had to run around and get back on the train.
Tanks use to take the Presence pool, because Taunt was single target, and Provoke was an AoE Taunt. (My Fire/Fire Tank VIII was made during that time, and it still is not lvl 50, I think he is 46.)
It was tough keeping a Posi TF together... A mission would be in Boomtown, and some players were not high enough level to go, there would be team wipes in the first mission, and you lose half the team.
There were
no Sidekicks
no Ouro
no Pocket D
lvl 35+ Mobs killing people in KR and Steel all the time.

Happy Birthday CoH!!
*passes out fresh cookies and spiked punch*
alot of changes in those 6 years. some good, some real real bad.
i didnt even know you could make more then 1 toon at a time. i thought you made one, level up, make another...lol
got my first respec and didnt know what it was, thought you had to use it, so i did and choose the same powers and slots
when you had 20 million you were rich as hell!!
40 50s so far.
if you dont like me....i dont really care.
respect is earned , never given
how bout when i tried buying moi for 80 mill and that was HUGE back then. and i lost cause dc took on a community pot just so i wouldnt get her
the only reason i stopped was cause i didnt want to have to do that many transactions cause we could only do 999,999 influence at a rip at the time and 80 mill was gonna take FOREVER!

I logged in for the first time - of course back then we didn't have the benefit of "builds" - and just chose an AT and "oh that sounds like fun" took over. I didn't put much thought into because all I really wanted to do was get a character who could fly. That was the goal.
Then all of those first "oops" moments; turning off fly when soaring close to the ceiling of a zone or running right into Kraken and not understanding I couldn't take him out myself... an encounter that took seconds. Let's not mention thinking that taking Whirlwind was a good idea.
Having melee powers on a blaster doesn't mean you're a tank but in those early days, when a tank or scrapper wasn't handy, I got to be the meat shield with the plethora of Defenders that were available for teams franticly healing me.
The infamous exchange of: "Hey blaster, use your taunt", "The only 'taunt' I have is 'Fireball!"
Six years later, I've had pretty much the same things happen to me a time or two recently.
I've been pretty anti-social and quiet but Guardian and its community has been very good to me and my wife. It's time we returned the favor.
Happy Birthday CoH! Now PL meh
Wow, where to begin.
I started in September 2004, right before the release of Issue 2. I recall walking around in Atlas with Armeros and my buddy who turned me on to the game, who is no longer playing (off to WoW and he is currently serving in Iraq (2nd deployment)). We are both playing in the same room, and we both turn the corner and there is this huge eyeball that starts shooting at us.
The rest is history.
Almost 6 years, so many wonderful people that have come and gone (both from playing and sadly in real life), so many fun times, and in the end what once was just something to pass the time with became a little part of my life in these last 6 years.
So, happy birthday to City of Heroes. From humble beginnings, this game and community have grown and I look forward to many more years of being a hero (or a villain).

Melissa "War Witch" Bianco was responsible for the play-on-words naming of the CoV tutorial. CoH: Outbreak. CoV: Breakout. Simple genius.
When we moved offices, the whiteboard with all the powerset ideas was in a "junk pile". Castle saved it and still has it
In beta, we reduced the effectiveness of Hasten to the point where the players said we ruined it and it was no longer viable to take (cont)
I think we've had to reduce it even more about three times since then.
Jack's reasoning for adding 5 characters to character names in CoV was to be able to add "Evil(space)" to the beginning of your name.
BAB's first assignment on his first day at work was the Teabag emote... he came to me to ask me how I wanted it animated. (cont)
I said "just steep a teabag in a cup of tea... pretty simple". I was not sure who was more embarrassed, (cont).
but a guy I'd never seen before just asked me how to animate a teabag.
Speaking /em teabag... when the patch note went out internally I lost count how many ppl came to my office and asked if it was a joke note.
Sean Fish had been working on CoH for months before I got hired. When showing me the game during my first week, he made a "Random" (cont)
character to hop in. I was appauled... "You can't even be bothered to name him? Are you that jaded with the costume editor?" He then (cont)
clicked random a couple more times and ended up with an evil looking all-purple outfit. He then typed in the name "The Perp". (cont)
It was at that point I knew I was working with genius.

Ah... I remember everything. I purchased CoX The week it came out. Took it home and to my horror realized my computer couldnt take it.... So I had to wait for six months until I could buy a new computer. So there it sat, on the shelf. I remember looking at the game almost every day, re-reading the manual. Drawing out my characters on paper and giving them names. Planning out builds in my head and on paper. Was a long six months to wait.
Then, finally, a new computer to take it. I loaded it up, logged in. Was so excited finally being able to bring my drawing into "Reality" from concept to computer. My first character, Nezarak, a Controller (ill/FF) was and still is my baby. I remember first logging into Atlas, that Epic Trumpet playing in the backround (Duh Duh Duuuh duhduhduuuuuh) and seeing dozens of 50s sitting in atlas, talking, joking, giving out money to newbies. CoX was my first real MMO Experience as far as playing and liking and learning it. EverQuest 2 was the first MMO I ever played, but I hated it so much it doesnt count >_>...
Oh the stupid things I used to do and say when I first began playing CoX lol. I think for about a year I didnt realize that "mis tell" meant a mistaken message in the wrong channel... I remember always saying, "Who is Miss Tell?"... I remember not knowing that you had to put Enhancements INTO the power slots... I always thought the Enhancement Tray was where they were slotted and the power slots you put on the powers meant that more of the attrributes from the tray went to that power XD...
And of course, I can never forget, all of the good players who have come and gone in the 5 years or so I have been playing. Quite literally 50 or more in my case. Of all of them, I am only in contact with 3 or 4. Better than none I assume. All the good times we had, back in the days when I played 12 hours a day every day with them. All the Super Groups I joined and left as they rose and fell. Vengeance groups as well. Lots of good memories to be had that I will cherish forever.
Then comes the changes, Good and very, very bad as some one said XD Because I am so passionate about the changes, especially the BAD ones >_>.... I will leave it at that lol ... PvP Version 2.0 For Life!!!! 3.0 can suck an egg >_>....
What else... IDK... memories though... *single tear down cheek*.....

It's been a fantastic 6 years.
CoH was my first MMO, and it completely sucked me in (hey, I'm still here after 6 years). It's a very nice game, but what truly makes it great is the people playing it. Regardless of how good the game is, I very much doubt that I would have been here this long without the Guardian community, and the very good friends I've made within it.
So, thanks to the incredible people of Guardian for making this place an online home for the past 6 years!
See you for the 10th?
*Sits on Norie's sholder and shares some birthday strawberries*
I dunno, I've just been here forever. I don't really have any intention of going anywhere else. It's good to have goals, right?
I still kind of miss my first group of regular team mates. Boombadier and Ray Cosmic. Lost in the annals of time. I could sit and reminisce all day, but I have costumes in dire need of updating >_>
I can see forever 0.0
It's been so long of a time too!
Been a great 6 yrs though I will admit
So many things happened in these yrs, met my husband (in coh and crossed over to rl), met some great friends (in coh and crossed over to rl too!)...... a lot of game time over the years, but I couldn't take my powers into rl with me, be cool if I could
BUT HAPPY 6TH BDAY NONE THE LESS!
See you all after the servers come up!
