Win7 non-admin, -project coh not working
Well you need to make a shortcut to cohupdater so the game can patch.

Are you sure your -project coh shortcut isn't accidentally pointing to a second copy of an non-updated client and/or the test client instead of Live?
After the last patch, the client is misidentifying itself as 10T, but only when I run it with "-project coh." cohupdater is able to figure things out without, but I have to type in my password to make it run.
I am fine with having to run cohupdater and enter my password when there are updates to the game, but it is not something I am willing to have to do every time the game runs. |

When running multiple computer accounts, I always make sure there is no cohupdater.exe in the /City of Heroes directory.
Move the updater to another directory and run it. If a new updater gets downloaded and placed in the City of Heroes directory, delete it and any shortcuts the game creates to it. Now log out/switch users and have your daughter do the same - run the segregated updater and delete any new updater that appears in the COH install directory. After following those steps it should work fine. No new updater will appear once the registry has been initialized with that first run on each account. If any new updaters do appear in the COH install directory in the future, nuke them.

This is not a misidentification. The current live version of the game is 11T. Go through the updater, and it will update your client to the current version. Once that's done, you can skip the updater again.

The client is still identifying as "1600.2010114.10T" in spite of the fact that we've played numerous times with multiple later versions--and, now, a new issue.
I need to find where that "...10T" is getting kept and nuke it so that my daughter's shortcut works again.
P.S. Sorry for the length of time to reply. I travel for weeks at a time for work.
Found it. I had to manually update the registry. At the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cryptic\COH\
I had to manually (that is, type in) the current client version (from the error message when attempting to connect to a server) into the CurrentVersion string value. After doing that, it works fine.
For some reason, my daughter's non-privileged login is not updating the CurrentVersion string value when I run the updater. I presume that it is because it is running with administrative access (i.e., as my own account) and updating the administrator's (my) HKEY_CURRENT_USER key but not hers.
Less than ideal, but at least I know the fix now. Hope this helps someone else.
export the registry key to a .reg file ( normal text file with a .reg extension)
Once that's done you can edit the text file with the new version when needed and run it on both account. It will update the registry with the new version and you won't have to navigate to the right registry key on both account every time.

Summary:
"(rest of path)\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh used to work, but now does not. Running cohupdater.exe works fine--it downloads nothing and makes no changes to the game files whatsoever, but the game client does not complain. Exact message when running with "-project coh":
Description:
My 3- and 7-year-old daughters play on my computer running Windows 7. They play with their own Windows login, they do not have administrative access to the machine, and "cohupdater.exe" will not run without admin access. I will not give them admin access to the machine, and I do not wish to have to go over to the machine and type in my password ever time they want to play the game.
I was able to solve this by moving the game files to "C:\Users\Public\Games\City of Heroes\" and setting up a shortcut to "(rest of path)\cityofheroes.exe" -project coh. No admin access needed, no problem.
Any ideas?
