New Record for Failure to Get a Team
I really thought VU2010 and Virtue LFG Alpha would be the most suitable channels on Virtue for being able to get on a team. I was apparently wrong. Both those channels seemed almost completely dead tonight. And here I thought Virtue was one of those servers where anyone can easily get on a team at any time.
2 hours of not adventuring later, my Dom (level 38) was absolutely unable to get on any teams. BTW, what is a suitable wait period between broadcasts? I think I was waiting anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, which seemed reasonable to me. Are there any other global channels on Virtue that are better suited for finding teams? I would really like to avoid any repeats of tonight, preferring to spend my time in game actually running missions instead of standing around trying to get on a team (totally bored with soloing). |
If so, I think I can see your problem.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Query: When you're "trying to get on a team," are you just standing around spamming a channel or broadcast with "$level $archetype looking for team"?

I've made a fair few villain teams over the last few weeks but that gets tiresome too. Do you send tells to one or two people in teams via the Search window or how do you go about it?
Its nothing new.. with in the last few months, 3 or 4 Id say, its been extremly tough to find a team. Not sure if its due to the dwindling player base or what but OP, I feel your pain.
I just give it a bit, send sprattic /t's on Global, VU2010 and Virtue LFG Alpha and if I dont get anything after an hour, I call it a night, which sadly happens more than finding a team.

Join one of the better organised Supergroups or Coalition networks,
For example - http://www.repeat-offenders.net/ (awesome bunch, mostly elite players across 3 servers including Virtue)
There are others, but RO are certainly one of the best, and the most welcoming.
It just happens like that sometimes. That doesn't mean there aren't teams out there to be had, just that you might need to look a little harder to find them. Or you could always start one of your own. I still find Virtue LFG Alpha to be a great teaming tool. However there are nights when I don't see anyone chit-chatting in channel but there are tons of people on and I still can't get a team. It's just that sometimes, thems the breaks. Keep your chin up, you'll find teams.
Advice posted before:
...
1. find a team or, better yet, 2. assemble one quickly. Finding a Team: - Don't hide; don't set your options to decline invites or to hide your name from local search. Sounds simple but folks (forget and) ask for the last spot on my running teams with their hide option set to decline invitations. I'll just move on to the next pm to keep things moving. - Set your team search status and a brief message. Good team leaders do scour the /sea window (cherry picking AT) the second they lose their 8th. You could -the- troller they sweep up (especially if it lists your best attribute such as "Kinetic ..."). - Join a task appropriate public global channel. (updated since last year, I now use: Virtue TFs 2010, VU2010, Virtue's LSRF and Virtuebadges09) are great channels for Task/Strike Forces. Virtue LFG Alpha is as well though I use this more for general teaming. - Create a search message but be specific. If folks ask, "Anything going on?" in Virtue LFG ALpha every 15 minutes, I'll not be inclined to respond. There's a chance the person is not 100% flexible to every type of running team, either the wrong factionside or seeking something entirely different than my team is working on ( let's say we're running papers and the gent is seeking only a TF). I don't have time to answer every broad-sweeping inquiry and field questions when there's a team to focus on. Instead, try typing something like: "Level 35 def Lf short TF or AV arcs. Rad w/ debuffs." Copy-paste your mini-resume into /broadcast, /request, /sg channels, /public global team channels.. you'll probably get a quicker bite before you start asking in the 3rd channel. Note: factionside, level, AT, special abilities, etc. - Be flexible. Be willing to switch an alt if it's better suited (so long as it's another alt you had level goals for as well). - Global friends are a lifeline. If they're on, ask if you can join them. But, also, don't be a mooch. If your global friends are on a team of level 50's.. don't ask to bring a level 1. You scale up but your defense and number of powers to contribute is ****. - Join a good SG or coalition. If you're so inclined and have been procrastinating on searching for one. I listed this last because some people don't play often enough to join (hence, DXP weekend mad runs), shun groups for their own reasons, or have their own SG only for their alts with which to create a private RP home. Hence, it's the least helpful -universal- advice. On the advocates side, most good groups have global channels.. won't hurt to invest with one character out of your 36. Assembling a Team: (if you've looked and cannot find one running what you wish to do.. ex: Shadow Shard TF, Lusca at 2 am, PvP badge runs) - If you're a social creature with a global friends list and a SG(s)/VG(s), use those options first to form, fill, and replace. Take care of your friends and they'll take care of you. - Next, use Broadcast and Request before Global channels. Sure, Broadcast and Request only appear for the zone in which you are located but the people who answer will already be on the right alt, level, and factionside. They'll be less likely to ask "Save me a spot. I'm finishing this mission." or "Lemme switch to heroes." Nothing wrong with waiting... unless six people pm you with the same request to save a spot. - Join (and use) all the above mentioned public global channels and then some. Global channels help you advertise to those in other zones. Again: (updated for this year: Virtue TFs 2010, VU2010, Virtue's LSRF, Virtue LFG Alpha, Virtuebadges09). - Create a search message but be specific. "Level 35 tank assembling team for +2 level/8 man mob AV arcs. PST with AT and level." Doesn't hurt to be very specific "Levels 14-37" ( I prefer they have travel powers) or "only need debuff or damage right now." Copy-paste your message but stagger the calls. Don't paste in 10 channels and get overwhelmed with PM's. - If you still have room, move on to /sea and cherry pick. I ***never*** use the search window *** first, before globals, *** because I can reach more people on channels. You'll be playing a game of wait and answer ten questions.. - Don't hide. People may see your calls, switching alts to join you, and forget your name. It'll come to them if they check /sea. - Do hide! If you're running a good team of 8 for hours, no need to be pestered by every random "Hey, can I join? PLZ!!!" message out there. Focus on the people you're with and they'll stay. - Look to fill the second someone advises they are leaving. Keep the team full and running. Every time you refill one new open spot is every time you don't have to search for seven all at once. Either way: - When using local or global channels to find or create a team, be courteous and follow up. "Team full. Thanks." "Got one, thanks." Others won't waste their time messaging you. |
AA has the full dissertation, so I'll defer to that.
But if I don't get six blind invites when I login, it's a rare day. And on that day, if I want to do some pugging, I form my own team. Within a minute, I'm always turning people away at full capacity.

Teaming tougher? Not at all a surprise.
Test server has been packed... not a coincidence that overall Live activity is down and some of the more active players in particular are quiet.

SGs are the only thing I don't do, thanks to my weird playtimes, relatively speaking.

@Darkmire, Learn to love that Global, If I am on(Its quite often). You can get in a Active Team, we team a bunch, hell It's starting to get to a point, where I may have to actually have 2 teams running now, Do to everyone being on.
If you manage to get on my Global friends list, consider yourself forever XP'd. I always check my global friends first before I go elsewhere for teaming.
I also run, Tokyo Screamplex redside(we are 90% red), I also have Project Pegasus blueside(though we are on Red way more. We are having our last hoorah on blue, after DS, but before GR, then after that, all toons are redside)
So if you need XP on Red, send me a tell(I wont be on the 23rd & 24th of April other plans) But normally Im around CoH, 5pm-7pm Pac(Mon-Thu), Friday(If Im on, 5pm to whenever) Saturday(If I am around, 8am to whenever), Sunday(8am to 7pm Pac)
Also have Vent Server if you want to listen or participate in convo's. At times chat will be dead quite, because we are chattering in Vent & giggling.
JJ
p.s. we dont RP, We are to busy laughing at each other in Ventrilo & doing crazy XP things
I delete more 50s, then you'll ever have.

Well OP you are definitely doing something wrong. I form all my teams from Virtue LFG Alpha, VU2010, Virtuebadges09, and Virtue TFs 2010, and none of my teams ever fail to form or fill after say ten minutes. If you are just saying "38 Dom LFT" then yeah, it's unlikely you are gonna find much, no matter how many channels you say it in. If you replace that with "L38 paper team LFM, PST for invite" and follow up with a judicious /search and a few /tells then you are gonna fill out a team fast. I've never been teamless for more than five minutes, except when I wanted to be, and I have no connections other than being a member of a few global channels.
Honestly the best advice you are gonna get is to form your own teams. People seem to be afraid to run a team and I don't know why. It's easy and fun and you get to dictate how the team runs.I have run into more than a few players who want to team but aren't willing to start a team, and those folks are getting what they deserve when they don't team. It's such a tiny burden, taking the lead, and if someone is too lazy to even do that then they don't deserve a team anyway.
If you are waiting around to get on a team, then yeah, I expect you are gonna wait a long while. If you actively make your own team, there is no waiting because there are plenty of other people who want a team too.
I was definitely not up to forming and managing my own team last night. In fact, I have to be in very rare form before I would even consider doing so. So since I was not forming a team, and was looking to join a team instead, blindly sending tells to people in the search list would have not been appropriate behavior.
And to top it off, it was doubtful that I would have been able to build a full team even if I had wanted to give it a go, since there were only a very few others who were also looking for a team (judging by the silence on the global channels). And come to think of it, most of those were blueside anyway.
Willowpaw I was on my 38 stalker last night and had mentioned i would have liked to teamed.
But since I don't mind soloing any any character I have I just went about soloing in nerva. I even asked on Virtue's LFG Alpha.
But with the next issue being in open beta and the fact that you where looking for a team after midnight PST most of the server is asleep.
ofcourse that's the same time i'm usually on I've become accustomed to soloing
V-Tronix - Angry Angels
V-Tron Elec/EM - V-Tron X EM/EA
To Build a Better Hero #53098 [Newly edited and looking for Feedback] - Renegade Robots: V-Tron's Task Force # - A Summer Song and A Winters Tail #104106
I did appreciate the offer. Had it came a bit earlier, I would have taken you up on it. Unfortunately, I was starting to feel a bit too wiped out by that time, and was ready for a good long sleep.
I did have better luck tonight, thanks to being tipped off about another global channel (privately run). The team had a short run, but at least there was enough of us to get those Overseers in the mission I had been trying all this time to build a team for.
Now to head over to blueside and see if my bubbler can get on a team (preferably for Faultline and the Midnighter arc).
