Ok, I admit it...
When shields first came out, I was one of the only people that wasn't impressed. It seemed to me to be a weaker version of /sr. I finally got around to making one the other day. I really am impressed. This is fun as hell, and I haven't even gotten around the Shield Charge yet.

So I hereby apologize. |

*makes sanctifying gesture* You are forgiven. We all say things in beta stages that we don't really mean.
Soft cap is very good, Shield Charge is fun.
But AAO is just over the top god like.

50s include MA/SD, MA/SR, DP/Elec, Claw/Inv, Kat/Dark, Kat/Fire, Spine/Regen, Dark/SD
First Arc: Tequila Sunrise, #168563
I had two major thoughts on Shield back when it was first released:
*) Unremarkable to squishy with SOs
*) IOs will make it silly
The only thing I wasn't sure about was whether people would be able to create softcapped Shield Scrappers and Brutes that didn't make any substantial sacrifices. It goes to show me how good some of the build wizards out there are.
How do you live with the clicky status protection though? Drives me up the wall with nerd rage. Good God I despise that mechanic.
I can't play the set, or ninjitsu for stalkers, for very long before I get so frustrated I have to swap to someone else. Every time I die I lose my status protection. And for a huge chunk of my career it's not permanent. The fact that eventually it does become permanent and can even be double stacked is not a benefit. Especially when I forget to click it. The fact that's its my own fault in that case just makes it worse =)

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

It's not like you have to wait a lot to make it perma, other sets like regen get the mez protection only at level 16. My shields had it perma at 22, and almost perma with DOs before. I'd check the numbers of the click mez with DOs but I'm on Mac OS X now. But after putting 2 DO's in it, it was enough to not bother me since the trip from 12 to 22 (SOs) is so fast.
With shields, SR and ninjitsu toons I just leave the mez protection on auto. Never bothered me. If I have Hasten on the toon (which is the usual autopower for my other characters), I bind Hasten to a key like 'y' for easy access.

My fire/SD brute is still something like 18 seconds off perma at level 36 when I remember to use haste. I have the status on auto, but it needs the help from haste a lot. Next time I level I'll add a slot to it. If I can stomach playing her for long enough to level. At least she'll be out of debt now from building up patrol xp. Still doesn't help having no status protection after a wipe when everyone else can just toggle up and go.

With clicky status protection I put 2 extra slots in it as soon as I can (usually level 11). With SOs it ends up being perma with a decent amount of overlap.

Dark/Shield Build Thread
Well, in Mids even with normal Ios it looks like crap imo? It must take a lot of expensive sets to make it decent I guess?

Because on a SO build, I have about 18% resists to all but psi and 30% def to melee/range/AoE
If that is Crap then there aren't too many sets that please you.

Can I see your current mids build?

You know you were totally correct, I honestly was paying no attention to melee/range/aoe so yes that does seem "decent", but not godly or anything? I do think now it might be cooler than I thought with dark melee though with those stats.
I just threw this together, with all ios, nothing special. in it.

Yeah, I would agree with you, just by itself, and considering you get a nice AoE attack, it gives decent survivability for a Scrap, but like most Scrap sets it can be built to be Godly.

You've also got to account for Against All Odds and Shield Charge. Having good enough Defense and defeating enemies faster is just a win/win combination. The whole of this set is just a really great combination.
