But it's only a cliché if it's trite and/or over used, not if it's just been used before or even used frequently.

To summarise... All clichés are tropes, but not all tropes are clichés.

Essentially:

Tropes: "Oh, cool. This is this.

Cliche: Oh man. This again?

It's...*blink*...oh wow. It's that gray area between recognizable and annoying. No wonder we're having an issue here.

Ah man, that was a good read. And I only succumbed to the temptation to click on the trope links whose names I didn't understand! Go me!

Statesman said let there be heroes, and there were heroes.

Lord Recluse said let there be villains, and there were villains.

NCsoft said let there be nothing, and there was nothing.

Yeah - like to one person, something could be cool - so it's a trope - but to someone else, it' s a cliche.
I really don't think it's possible to totally say for sure when something's been used too much, or just the right amount, as that will be differnt for each person.

Funny, that's the point that Morac was trying to show you. That one person's opinion doesn't get to dictate who the rest of the world thinks. If you want to think the two terms are the same, then that's fine. But no one has to obey you and follow your ideas.
