Remarks: The original version of this build emphasized recovery in the set bonuses for obvious reasons, but I wanted to see if I could build up a decent amount of defense with set bonuses and Weave. Death Shroud suffered for the former, and Darkest Night was removed for the latter. My hope is that the Theft of Essence and Performance Shifter procs will make up for the lost recovery (0.76/s is the difference between the two builds), along with Dark Consumption of course.

Thoughts?

P.S. I also ended up moving the Steadfast off Dark Embrace and into Tough so I could get the 6x Titanium Coating bonus; I'm uncertain if only having +4 KB protection from Karma will cause any knockback/down issues for when I exemp below 33, can anyone confirm/deny this? I assume the only things that might cause issues are AVs and GMs, but I've never really been clear on critter KB magnitudes.

Your link doesn't work, Could you please either fix that or include a data chunk?

But I can tell you right away that your Death Shroud slotting is completely inadequate. I'd recommend at least 50-60% end reduction, and currently you have none.

EDIT: just saw your note at the end of your post. It's hard to tell without seeing your build in Mid's, but from what I can see (no end red in DS, two attacks slotted with Oblit, Dark Regen underslotted for end red) I think you're being way too optimistic about the ability of the ToE+End and DC to make this an endurance friendly build.

And holy crap yeah, somehow I forgot about the ridiculous cost of Death Shroud (I'm not actually running this yet, I'm still on mostly SOs). I could probably free up other slots somewhere else, although from the way you're talking it sounds like I should abandon the idea of defense entirely since it's going to bork my build (which from the sound of it is already borked, as most of my slotting is unchanged between the two builds).

Meh. Who needs Defense when you have Touch of Fear, Darkest Night, and their massive stacking to hit penalties?

Weight training: Because you'll never hear someone lament "If only I were weaker, I could have saved them."

I don't have either of those things.

Hmm. Fair enough. My bad. Having read the build closer... I'm of the opinion you've *seriously* understlotted your attacks. Especially Death Shroud which is basically useless as you've got it slotted now, except for as a massive endurance drain.

How much defense did this slotting give you?

No, not at all. But I wouldn't recommend being so set on increasing defense that it borks your build in other ways.

I've got a Dark scrapper and a Dark tanker, and IMO you'd be better off trying for typed defense rather than positional. You can concentrate on the damage types that would be most useful to you (S/L/E) and it will take far fewer slots than getting the level of melee defense you have in this build.

I took my Spines/Dark scrapper and altered it to be a DM/DA, and this is what I came up with. It has 31% S/L defense, 34% E/NE defense, and the attacks are adequately slotted. You'll probably want to swap out Air Sup/Fly and Recall Friend for your own picks, but I didn't want to bother changing them. CJ will more than make up for the loss of the SH set in Air Sup. But note that I took Cloak of Darkness; it has as much defense as Weave, so you definitely don't want to skip it on a defense build.

EDIT: Sorry 'bout that, my export type got reset for some reason.

I guess I underestimated the utility of Death Shroud as anything other than easy Fury generation (and like I said, totally forgot about how bad an end drain it is).

(Amusing sidenote: In going to retrieve this information, I thought it would be easiest to just click the DataLink from my original post, only to discover that it's unclickable! It was an actual link in some draft of that post, I know because I clicked it in the post preview, I dunno what happened -- no wonder Finduilas couldn't open it!)

Thanks, I'll take a closer look at integrating this with my current build when I get the chance. One thing that does pop out though is the damage in Dark Regen -- is it that worth it?

The other thing I notice is that this build actually does worse for recovery than the build in my original post -- 0.93/sec with all non-travel toggles on (it does better for defense, admittedly, but hardly worth it). With Dark Consumption underslotted for recharge (and taken absurdly late, but I assume that's an artifact of tossing a theoretical build together) you'd be chomping blue pills like there's no tomorrow.

I don't wish to be ungrateful though, there's definitely some ideas in here I can see trying to work into my planned build.

Quite honestly, as a DM/DA brute, building for defense isn't really going to help you much since the set is not geared for it at all. On top of that, any DM/DA build will be pretty end heavy as well, so your best bet is to try and get the endurance drain down to a manageable level while increasing your fury bar.

I have a DM/DA scrapper who is a beast and love playing him, BUT I've also discovered that you really can't build a brute the same way and expect him to survive. Thus, you have to put more emphisis on Death Shroud, Dark Regeneration and Dark Consumption to keep yourself vertical in large mobs or dicy situations.

With that said, here is the build I'm currently using and it's working out fairly well. I've just hit lvl 29 and don't even have DS, yet I was able to demolish every mob (6-min/2-Lt) during a solo AE farm I ran this morning with little trouble. I would imagine that once DS is fully slotted, this brute will be one serious monster:

Ok I have a DM/DA Brute and love him to death and I have to say first DA does offer decent resistance though I have found that in my current build that the trick to any dark set is too balance your healing powers with your
resistance. I decided to focus alot of my sets with regneration/HP in mind and has worked out very well. There is a balance in which works very very
well as your resistance will mitigate some of the damage, your increased
regeneration will help to take more damage, and above all else with your
heals siphon life and dark regeneration you will be very highly survivable. As for the end issues with endurance reductions and stamina its pretty
much not abn issue too much either. I personally think the balance listed above is the true key to DA.

Mind posting your build? Because I also took into consideration the regen/HP factor, but was really more focused on endurance usage, since it's easy to run dry fairly quickly when looking to keep a full bar of fury.

The build I posted is the best I could do for covering all of the basics (some better than others, obviously). Anyway, here are the numbers from MIDs:

- Regeneration: 177%
- Max HP: 105.6%
- End Rec: 169% (3.34/s)
- End Use: 1.43/s
- Max End: 118%

- Haste: +20%
- ToHit: +0
- Accuracy: +53%
- Damage: +1%
- End Rdx: +0

I would have loved to get more HP, ToHit and Damage, but purples just aren't within my budget.

As you can see, my attacks are slotted out a bit better, and Death Shroud is un-gimped. I feel like Oppressive Gloom might be overslotted, but that was mainly for the recharge bonus, and I'm not sure what else to do with the slots. I'm uncertain about Cloak of fear -- would I be better with -ToHit or Fear here? I'd probably go with 5x Glimpse if I switched to Fear.

Thoughts?
