No more Merits --> Inspirations?

Did the Devs recently eliminate the ability for players to buy large inspirations from Merit Vendors for 1 Merit each, or am I missing something?

Seems to me I could do this as little as a couple weeks ago, but this morning I tried to and the option wasn't there. I read through the patch notes back to the beginning of March, but I didn't see anything about this.

If your inspiration tray is full, it won't show the option to buy them. I got some the other day. Sometimes the merit vendor window is wonky, so you may try going down and selecting "recipes missing ingredients" and selecting it again to see if it comes up.

Weird, I just checked and the option exists for my level 50 Dom, but not for my level 5 Dom. Is it maybe level-locked or something?

I think you must be a certain level to purchase insps. Hang on.

edit: I think it's level 10 to 20, but I have to patch and apply before I can log on and check. Forgot to do that before work this morning. Doh.

edit2: Yes, it's level 10.

Well, that explains it then. Wonder what the reasoning was behind that.

Well, since 5 merits are given away as two different vet rewards... probably to prevent people from creating tons of random characters, getting the merits, buying the cheap inspirations, and passing the money along to the next guy.

60 month is 5 Merits. 72 month is 6 Merits.

I know... a HUGE difference from what you said.

So that's 11 merits for every new character. And each large inspiration last time I checked was selling for 20-60K. (Albeit I haven't checked in a while). So that would be 200k-800k in influence instantly, just for logging in and claiming the credits and buying the inspirations and reselling them. Actually, at that rate I think it'd be faster than farming... hmmm....

People spend merits on insps?! I thought that option was some kind of sick joke.

Well, if it we were talking a 72 month veteran, they could create a character, PL it to 10th level (not that difficult), buy large inspirations, sell them on WW to the turn of a few hundred thousand influence, rinse and repeat.

Now, what would happen, in the course of just a few runs of even just a few people doing this, would be that it would cause the large inspiration market to crash. Right now, a Restoration (large self rez) goes for about 100,000. But there's not a huge number of people looking to buy them. Same with Phenomenal Luck, or Escape.

If I get tired of a character and decided to delete it, yes, I spend my last few merits on large inspirations, sell them and pass the money on to a different toon before I delete the one I'm tired of.

Faster than farming what with what?

"Instantly" is pretty relative here - you have to log out and pass through the character creation screen, then hoof over to the local WW. (The BM in Mercy is really too far away to consider doing this, IMO.)

You're also subject to limited demand. There's only so many outstanding bids for large inspirations at a time. I'd expect to saturate the market for them pretty quickly. Also I can usually buy most large inspiration for 25k-50k if I wait a half hour or so, so I don't think you're going to break 100k for every one you sell.

Meanwhile, a solo level 50 character can get over 8k Inf for a +2 minion. I'm betting farming is way more stable way to make income.

Not really. Zone in to Mercy, go to your base, use the Mercy TP, and bam! You've instantly covered over half the distance to the BM. Use a Stalker, and you'll make it to the market alive for sure.

My computer zones fast, and that's still a waste of time IMO. And you've still got to go through the character creator.

Plus, it doesn't address the fact that you'd almost certainly glut the market in very short order. I'm still buying these things overnight for 25k.

also... you'd have to have an alt account to invite yourself to your sg to get access to the base... And if you have an alt account to do THAT... I think there's more efficient ways to both generate new inf and transfer it to new characters that need it.
