Help with a WS Tri Form Build

Hello all,

After a long hiatus from trying my WS I have returned to it with new enthusiasm.
I am approaching the 40s now and am closing on the final build. I am finding the slotting and choice of IO sets difficult. Other than Recharge I am really not sure what IO set bonuses are the most beneficial. My funds are decent but not on a scale to purple the build out. I have mostly avoided purple sets.

I'm building my shade as a Tri Former. So far I am focusing on recharge for lack of a better idea really, and most slots are given to Nova and Dwarf right now.

I like to switch quickly between my forms and I love to Double Mire. I use Nova and Dwarf form the most, just passing through human form for a Mire, Quasar, Fluffies or a Gravity blast or two. I guess I tend to spend a slight majority of the time in Dwarf form as I enjoy tanking.

Ok that being said this is the Mids build I am working with. Some choices are made simply because I don't know what else to do so any advice based on what I've stated would be of great help.

A few things:

1) Multiple -KB IO's really doesn't help. I have 1 slotted in my toon, and have yet to recall I time I've been knocked back. And while in Nova/Dwarf, you won't be KB'd anyway. All those Zephyr -KB IO's are going to cost a TON of inf.

2) Two of your 5% global recharges are being wasted. You have 7, and the limit is 5. I put some Mocking Beratement into the Taunt to get another 7.5%. For the remaining wasted 5%, used Basilisk's Gaze in Gravity Well, added slots to throw in Dam/Rech to it.

3) Eclipse needs Accuracy. How about 2 Acc/Rech and 2 Res/Rech? It's what I run, and works well.

4) Build Up proc in the pets? I'm not sure how well this works, it either has a chance to fire only when you summon one (not that useful) or when the pets attack (useful). Anyone know?

5) I'd peel a slot from Stygian Circle to throw another Recharge onto Hasten, but that's just me. My 'shade has ~88% global recharge, three-slotted hasten, and Eclipse slotted as shown above, and I have perma Eclipse. With the changes in #2, you're up to that same recharge, so I'd throw a third slot into Hasten to make sure Eclipse is perma. You might be able to get by without it though.

6) Not sure about how effective the Psi Resistance unique is in the shield...I'd just throw in the Steadfast -KB IO since it's really cheap (Oh, just saw you have one in Invisibility) . I mean, Gravitic Emanation is perma and so can keep you safe from mez yourself while soloing...and if you're in Dwarf a lot, psi res isn't so helpful.

7) Some other procs or random IO's I'm unsure of...Chance for Hold in the Snare, do you use it a lot, and would it be helpful even if you did? Even when combined with Ebon Eye, that's only a chance for a low hold that won't last long - I'd rather just do Gravitic + Inky (with Acc in Inky) to get a boss stunned, then move to multiple Gravity Well's to keep held. (That's the strategy I used to solo some Vanguard missions with bosses, those guys are a pain)

A really nice build though. If I had been building my shade nowadays, I would go for this, definitely.

Here's my version of it updated:

Thank you for the feedback it is appreciated. I had not thought of Basilisk's Gaze. TY for that tip among others.

Your budgeting priorities are interesting. You know that some purples are actually cheaper then the Zephyrs, the LotG +recharges and all those Obliterations? I'm guesstimating the cost of the build you've linked at around three billion. That's not a criticism - just pointing it out.

Sets:

- Touch of the Nictus in Dwarf Drain is not benefiting you. 2.5% +end? Who cares - that's what Stygian is for.
- The sixth Crushing Impact in Dwarf Smite is wasted. Dump that slot into Hasten. You need the five seconds of +recharge a lot more then you need 2.5% psi resist.
- I agree with Square_One about that Soulbound Allegiance proc. I doubt the cost will be worth the benefit, especially since you prefer a forms-based playstyle.
- Yes, I also agree that Stygian is a bit overslotted. Two is fine.
- I disagree about the -kb slotting. You'll notice a big difference between -4 mag and -8. You've got -16 however, and that's overkill.
- You're over the cap on the 5% recharge and 9% accuracy bonuses. Swapping out the TotN set will fix one of those right off.

Shadow Cloak & Super Speed AND Invisibility & Stealth? Do these even stack? Someone else weigh in - I really don't know. That seems like an awful lot of power picks devoted to not being seen.

Thank You for the input. Like I said a lot of these choices are made because I don't know what else to do lol

Points one and two are duly noted.
I will experiment with the Soulbound Allegiance since someone traded it to me for a couple of Doctored Wounds Recipes.
Ok yes 16 KB protection is Overkill..
I'm trying to see what I can swap out for the sets that put me over for recharge and accuracy yet still give me good set bonuses and values.
I took the Invisibility and Stealth as mules and because I didn't see any other Primary, Secondary or pool powers to take that I really wanted to spend slots on. Is Unchain Essence usable with just one slot. Don't know that I would use it often so I really don't want to spend slots on it if I take it. Same with Essence Drain. I was thinking of trying grant invisibility to use on the fluffies instead. Any other pool powers you would reccomend?

A far as cost, yea I noticed how insanely expensive the LOTG + recharges are now. 170 mil last I looked...A bit much. May have to try and get some with Merits. I didn't find the Obliterations to be that expensive though. I was shopping for a number of sets for 2 of my tanks a few weeks ago. Didn't seem that bad though I don't remember how much they were exactly. However Purple sets like Armageddon, Ragnarok and Hecatomb are still extreme in cost. For LOTG I'm still only trying to get a single enhancement from a set at an outrageous cost not an entire set at that cost or more. Are there any purple sets that you would recommend that are reasonably priced?

The bargain purple set most relevant to your needs is one you already have - the Soulbounds. My koosh pet uses four of them. Gravitic Anchors are nice too but those ones are pricier. Most purple sets of use to you are going to be astronomical.

Unchain Essence is a highly amusing attack. It's a love-it-or-hate-it power however, it takes a bit to practise to get the timing right and benefits from a targeting macro. To answer your question - yes it needs to be slotted to be effective. It's not worth the pick if you can't afford to slot it.

Now that I look more closely I can see how you're using the Concealment pool for set mules. As much as set muling makes me twitch a bit, you don't have a lot of options. If you prefer a forms-centred play style, Fighting, Fitness and Leadership aren't suitable to you. Presence would be highly situational and you'd have to underslot to the point of losing effectiveness. That only leaves Medicine, which can be useful with fewer slots and can be used to mule the Numina and Miracle uniques. That will cost another half-billion but you can deduct it from the money you save on Zephyrs. >.>

Ok I'm going to stop before I get silly.

On cheap purple sets - the pet purples don't include global recharge...they have good bonuses elsewise though (I have them slotted on my build) The hold purple set would only be 2.5% more recharge than the Basilisk's, and will be much more expensive. The stun purple set would only be 3.75% more recharge than Stupefy, and would also be much more expensive. *shrug*

If you're going to get 2 -KB IO's, at least try to make them the Steadfast and Karma. Those will run up to 10 million each, while a single Zephyr -KB is going to go upwards of 100 million.

You guys are right about the Zephyr KB IO's. They are rediculous now!!!. I remember getting them for 15 mil tops like only a few months ago. Some are going for as much as LOTG +Recharge. Crazy!! Yep a Karma and a Steadfast will do just fine. Bye bye Zephyr LOL. I also see a decent way to Frankenslot one, maybe two things so I don't waste recharge and accuracy bonuses.

Your input is certainly a big help and makes quite a difference. Thanks to you both.

Could Medicine really be used as mules for the Numina and Miracle uniques? I mean, would it be better than putting those Stygian Circle? Would they even proc on either powers?

It has a chance to proc once when you summon a pet (this buffs YOU), AND also for every time a pet attacks
(This buffs that individual pet), this applies to all of the pet's powers and its AoE's get multiple chances to proc per target hit.

No matter what type of WS you build, the pets IMO should always be included/used, they add alot of firepower especially AoEs. With large enough spawns, the proc would be constantly proc for each pet.

If AUTAUMNFYRE will forgive me for jumping in, I think this is a good thread and I wanted to toss out my own build as well for comparison or to get advice. Aside from I think the Obliteration sets I don't think it's all that expensive, and it meets my goal of much added defense. But hopefully I didn't sacrifice too much actual function to get there.

My regret as it currently stands is that I'd like a couple slots to make Gravity Well better, should I need to hold someone or fight in human form briefly. But I don't know where I can afford to take them from. I also don't know if that 66% recharge is enough on the Nova and Dwarf attacks. Set bonuses are good but I don't want to be standing there with no attacks ready.

Anyway, hope I'm not intruding and thanks for any advice.

first time on a Mids export, hope I do it right

I can't open builds with the latest Mids update unless it's a data chunk so I'm doing this by eye.

It looks like you're going for ranged defense. I suggest going for recharge, more eclipse = more survivability. Losing the 6 slot Gaussian in Nova saves a lot of slots. I just put the Perf Shifter procs there and 1 in Dwarf Form. Put some rechare in Stygian Circle. I use 2 endmod/recharge and a recharge IO.

You don't need end redux in Quasar, it takes all your endurance anyway. Acc/Dam/Rch.

I'd take Shadow Cloak earlier, it's full PVE invis to almost everything with Super Speed.

IMO, the 13% melee defense isn't going to help you that much, and the slots trying to get there could be used for better things. If you are going for Defense, I'd try to go all ranged, and then pack in some recharge - perma or near perma Eclipse is just too great all on its own.

I'd break up the Obliteration in Sunless Mire, and even the Gaussian's in Nova and use them for other things.

If you're going ranged defense, khelds can be a bit sly and fit in 5 of the Zephyr 3.13% ranged defense bonuses among the various travel powers - I know the purely travel one is cheap, but the travel/end one might be a tad rare and slightly more expensive. (The -KB one is extremely expensive)

Here are some changes that get up to 38% ranged defense...to fit in either more defense, or get near perma-Eclipse, the price is going to take a steep turn for the worse - LotG uniques can be helpful, since khelds can take filler powers in the 40's to throw them into.

Here's an updated, if you want to see it. (I'd also throw in a -KB IO into one of the early shields you picked up. Also, taking the Resistance enh out of Eclipse means you'll need 6 instead of 5 foes hit to cap resistance...up to you if you want to make that change and get another slot into Gravity Well.)

If you want to go for more all-around defense, I'd have to tinker with it some more.

I love how people are catching on to using HOs, especially in Gravity Well. I use this slotting: 1 Nucleolus, 1 Endoplasm, 2 Peroxisome. Enhances accuracy (66.6%), hold (94.9%), damage (94.9%). Now you don't have to choose between slotting for damage or mez. If you can afford to 6-slot it, the two Lockdown recharge doubles will also give you a global damage buff and should make the hold stackable with Hasten or a bit of global recharge.
