1. Thank You for this THB...I greatly appreciate it. \
I regret now not being more active in the forums or with my Kheldians in general. I took it for granted that it would be abject insanity for a game as great as COH to disappear.....how foolish.

I have to get to work but I'm going to go over this build in mids as soon as I can. I may have more questions.

Thanx again,

Erik
2. I want to experience a slotted lvl 50 PB before the game ends in November but I really have no clue about a build blueprint so I'm asking for suggestions and examples here. I am not sure what to focus the build on or what bonuses to shoot for. I have about 1 bil influence saved up for this character so I can afford expensive sets but prolly not purples
There are some things I have decided on:
Bi Form: Human and Dwarf
I will be switching between the 2 forms often
My play style is usually to close and soften with range then switch to dwarf , port in , drop flare and hammer with dwarf. flare again and switch back to human for 2 more strikes or heals then back to dwarf until mob is dead.

I have a strong idea about what powers I want to take though I am still unsure of the power pools and I really am lost as to what sets to slot, the options are so massive :
Blast:
Glinting Eye
Gleaming blast
Radiant Strike
Inner Light
Luminous detonation
Incandescent Strike
Pulsar
Solar Flare
Dawn Strike

Aura
Incandescence
Shining Shield
Essence Boost
Thermal Shield
Quantum Shield
White Dwarf
Reform Essence
Conserve Energy
Light Form

Power Pools
Hasten

Can anyone help a brother Kheld out before sunset?? Thanx in advance.

PS: DAMN YOU NC SOFT...DAMN YOU! I took a look at Champions and DC Universe online....mere shadows and sheep compared to COH...sniff
3. Hey
Thinking about making a new Brute and was wondering if anyone has tried using Kinetic Melee.
I love the animations but I'm not sure how well the set works.
Specifically: How does it rate with other attack sets?
Do you consider it a good offense or lacking?
what defensive sets work well with it?
Conceptually I was thinking of a Kin/Inv Brute.

All replies are appreciated

THANX
4. Hi All

I don't play much redside but I do like Brutes. I definitley want to make one with the Kinetic set but I don't know which Secondary to take. Energy Aura seems interesting mostly because its new to me.

So what sets work well with Kinetics? I'm curious both as to which secondary has the most synergy if any, with Kinetic and what secondary has the most survivability.

Thanx in advance.
5. Thanks for posting the build. However, the build doesn't seem to have any knockback protection.
6. 'Ello

Any advice on improving the build below is appreciated.

Right now it is focused on end management and recharge with attacks heavily slotted for damage.
I tried a defense heavy or capped S/L defense build but I felt like I was just making another tank and sacrificing my attacks too much.

My main worry with the build is that with little focus on Defense I may get smoked before I can dish out the damage. I am hoping that the ToF and CoF together with Siphon life and Dark regen will keep me alive but I don't know if that would work.

Also, Is it too focused on end management? Perhaps I don't need conserve power and PP?

How would you guys tweak it?

Thanx in advance

7. Thanks for the advice. Yes I usually play tanks so I know how expensive the KC set is.
However I have never tried to cap positional defense and never even thought about it.
How would one go about it? I mean for S/L the common sets to turn to are the KC or the Reactive Armor's and such. What sets are good for positional?
8. Hi all

My DM/DA Scrapper Mournstar is breaking through the 40's and now I have to decide how I want to build him. I find that I'm rather stuck as I'm not sure what bonuses to look for in IO sets.

I am thinking of taking Conserve Power and Physical perfection for Epics.

I am taking Boxing/Tough/Weave

I plan to take just about every Dark Power except the following:
Shadow Punch
Confront
Oppressive Gloom
Soul Transfer

That being said I have no idea if it's worth it to try and Soft Cap his S/L defense.

I do know that I want to get some recharge bonuses and probably increase his max end and recovery a bit but with both Stamina and Physical Perfection I don't have to go crazy.

So I ask the vaunted Scrapper community their advice on what bonuses to go for and if Soft capping S/L defense is a good idea or waste of time? Is it a good idea to go all out on recharge bonuses?

I also will NOT be looking to get purple sets. I can get some of the expensive stuff like LOTG GLobal Recharge and Numina and Miracle procs but I don't have the kind of funds needed to purple him out completley or even partially.

Thank You to everyone in advance for their help.
9. Here is my WP/WM build as an example. This was a Respec build so the timing of power choices may not be optimal to pay attention to as an actual leveling path but rather as a final overall result.
The build is S/L soft capped and all defenses but 3 are in the 30's. The build also has 657% regen and 150% HP. I find it to be pretty solid. Resistances are respectable as well.

Also, In my opinion, unless you plan to solo exclusively ALL WP tanks require taunt to hold aggro. You do not have a strong taunt aura as many other sets do and you really do need taunt to hold aggro. Besides, you can slot some reallly good bonuses in taunt with either Mocking Beratement or Perfect Zinger sets.

Also I would suggest keeping Whirling Mace and dropping Resurgence. Your a tank and your plan should be to never fall so you shouldn't need Resurgence in your final build.

Strength of Will is a pretty good top tier power who's crash is very minimal so you can use it without too much fear as opposed to something like Invulnerability's Unstoppable. I would add that to your build as well.

Conserve Power and Physical Perfection are Overkill for a WP tank and I don't think you need those with both Stamina and Quick Recovery. That should free up the slots for better picks.
10. This my current Inv/EM build by way of example. It is soft capped for S/L and has decent defense in several categories. I personally believe in Build Up on Tanks as I find it very useful the times that I solo or if a group I'm tanking for is not optimized for damage dealing. It helps against bosses as well. I was able to fit it in and take Box/Tough/Weave. The only powers I did not take from my Primary was Unstoppable which I find really not worth it once your soft capped and Stun and Energy Punch from my Secondary.

So I would say no you really don't need Energy Punch and you really don't need Acrobatics. At level 32 I would say you could take Taunt and at 35 Energy Transfer which is your best single target attack. Slot Taunt with at least 4 for a Mocking Beratement set if not a full 6 for the Perfect Zinger Set and Energy Transfer should have a full 6 slots. Add slots to Dull Pain asap as well and slot for recharge and heal.

11. I would also suggest Dark as a secondary. The To Hit Debuff that most dark Attacks lay down complements Ice's defenses well. You also get a good damaging self heal with Siphon Life and a Great PbAoE/Build Up with Soul Drain which works nice with icicles. There's also good mitigation with Touch of Fear and extra Endurance rediculousness with Dark Consumption which may actually be overkill depending on the build.

Here is the current build (in progress) that I am aiming for as one example of an Ice/Dark build. This build is expensive and focuses on Soft Capping S/L/E/NE and getting +recharge bonuses along with extra HP and Regen. It actually does not use 2 of Dark's mainstays in that ToF and DC are dropped to make room for hasten and weave. I decided to keep Hibernate though for those tough AV or EB battles where there's no minions to feed to Soul Drain and EA.

12.
I like +rechg. It's more of the best attacks over time, it's more En Abs over time for stacking defense and endurance rec more often. It's going to give you more Siphon Life over time. Dark Consumption and Soul Drain recharged more often... so haste would be a beaut really. In having Haste your likely to be nearer perma Hoarfrost which would be where with accolades your riding at the hp cap and so with that you don't need to worry about getting the +hp bonuses as much neither because you could be permanently there anyway...but do that softcapped with tough to feel safe.

QUOTE]

Thanks for the input New Dawn.
Actually this is what I'm discovering as I play the character. He's level 36 now and I find that other than the toggles and my attack chain, I rely on Soul Drain, EA, and Siphon Life the most. I always catch myself looking to see when these abilities recharge so I can pop them off again. With that in mind I think + recharge is, indeed, a better goal.

I also find that as much as I like Touch of Fear, thematically and for it's cool shuddering effects on the baddies, I really do not find myself using it very much with this character. Thus I have reworked the build to acquire recharge bonuses and added Hasten and Weave by sacrificing Touch of Fear and Dark Consumption. With so much recharge EA is up quickly enough to easily double, if not triple stack the Def Buff and it's pretty simple to recharge the blue bar from almost zero to full with just 3 minions in range so I think Dark Consumption is really not necessary. I don't feel comfortable dropping Fitness however because when I'm tanking an EB or AV with no minions or once the minions die, Soul Drain and EA will be of limited use so I will be relying on my Stamina, single target attacks and maybe Hibernate to get me through.

A question on bonuses as I'm not entirely sure how this works. I believe there is a limit of 5 of a particular set bonus you can get in a build. Are there any exceptions to this rule? If I have 5 + recharge set bonuses and 1 or more LOTG +Global Recharge enhancements will they stack or be ignored?

A good point.

I had originally had Hibernate 3 slotted with Numina's IO's but I'm not sure if the Regen Bonus puts me over the max of 5 rule which I ALWAYS forget about. Anyone have better ideas for slotting on Hibernate?
Touch of Fear nets ssome nice bonuses with the Abyss set including +Hit Points, recharge and accuracy. Any reasonable slotting for Hibernate fall in that ballpark?

It's comin together now

Whenever I see stuff like this it makes me want to cry. Do people really not think when they slot? It's basically the same when you see stuff like Health 1 slotted with Numina's: Heal. Completely wasted money. There are three pieces in the BotZ set, two of them inexpensive and for some reason you opted to skip the other inexpensive piece for a useless but expensive one..? And now with that off of my chest I'll get on to helping you:

---|
RELAX. As I said that's what I had slotted in mids to cap E/NE. I didn't like that method due to cost and lack of need for KB protection, which is why I posted the build for advice. I DID think before I slotted thank you very much and I didn't spend any inf yet.

As far as the build you suggest, thank you for sharing the option as it is quite different from anything I would have considered. It's good to see different takes on a build.

However, after altering my build in Mids based on previous suggestions and adding Weave, I prefer the overall defensive totals that I get in addition to soft capping S/L/E/NE. With the Addition of the def bonus from EA a greater array of my defenses will be substantially boosted.
At this point I am trying to figure out what to drop from the build mostly as posted, to make room for Weave while remaining open to alternative ideas that may suggest a better route. I'm not too keen on Fire Mastery and it doesn't really fit the character concept.

I know, I know! It can fear bosses in two quick hits. But let's face it, DM's single target DPS is good enough for the situation already. But in an AV situation, where you won't be able to fear them, Hibernate could come in more handy with their higher to-hit chance, and for those AVs that specialize in Ice's weaknesses.
Ok if I use Hibernate, while Im untouchable and regenerating do I lose aggro and watch my team get wiped from the safety of my personal glacier??
I just got Hibernate today at lvl 35 so I finally tried it out. It's a pretty good save your butt button. But I have only used it solo so far.
16. That may not be so crazy. If I switch out Hibernate for Weave with 3 slots plus 2 slots for CJ and an additional slot for end reduction for Icicles my totals come out to:

Defense:
S/L: 55.1
F/C: 15.2
E/NE: 52.6
Psi: 13.9
Melee: 23.2
Ranged: 19.2
AoE: 13.9

With 240% regen,121% Max HP, 158% end rec and 107.2% Max end

This reaches the Soft capped defense I want for sure without wasting slots and inf on the Zephyrs. I've never had a toon with Hibernate so I really don't know how serious skipping it is but this alternative reaches the goals for the build it seems.
17. I'm starting to lean toward fitting in weave and slotting CJ, prolly with Gift of the Ancients. That would more than softcap S/L/E/NE. But what to drop? I guess it comes down to Smite or Touch of Fear? Which would you guys drop?
18. Thanx for the input.
The order of the power picks is not planned here. It's strictly to see what powers I want and what slotting they should have, not really when to take them so there are obvious inconsistencies which you have pointed out.

further looking at it I really don't want the Zephyrs. They are there for the E/NE defense set bonus to reach soft cap. I really want to go another route to slot to get that soft cap without them. Not sure what to change to get that though. Any suggestions?

Your point on Icicles is valid and if I can drop the Zephyrs I should be able to free up a slot for that.

I keep going back and forth with regard to weave. Sometimes I want to drop something to fit it and other times I don't. Really on the fence about it. Also, not sure what to drop to fit it. I do like Smite as an attack and slotting it with KC for the io bonuses. Tough choice that one.

Again thank you for your help and comments.
19. Hiya

Working on my Ice Armor-Dark Melee build here.
Main Goal is to soft cap S/L/E/NE defense. Secondaries are extra HP, Recharge and End although the End may be overkill with EA and Dark Consumption. Not sure what secondary bonuses are best for this type of Tank.
Right now I have 2 Zephyr sets planned to reach the E/NE soft cap but that seems like a waste since I don't think I need the KB protection. Also seems like it will be a waste of funds. Not sure where else I could pick up the extra E/NE bonuses I would need if the Zephyrs are dropped.

Any advice to improve this build is welcome and appreciated.

Thanx in Advance

20. You guys are right about the Zephyr KB IO's. They are rediculous now!!!. I remember getting them for 15 mil tops like only a few months ago. Some are going for as much as LOTG +Recharge. Crazy!! Yep a Karma and a Steadfast will do just fine. Bye bye Zephyr LOL. I also see a decent way to Frankenslot one, maybe two things so I don't waste recharge and accuracy bonuses.

Your input is certainly a big help and makes quite a difference. Thanks to you both.
21. Thank You for the input. Like I said a lot of these choices are made because I don't know what else to do lol

Points one and two are duly noted.
I will experiment with the Soulbound Allegiance since someone traded it to me for a couple of Doctored Wounds Recipes.
Ok yes 16 KB protection is Overkill..
I'm trying to see what I can swap out for the sets that put me over for recharge and accuracy yet still give me good set bonuses and values.
I took the Invisibility and Stealth as mules and because I didn't see any other Primary, Secondary or pool powers to take that I really wanted to spend slots on. Is Unchain Essence usable with just one slot. Don't know that I would use it often so I really don't want to spend slots on it if I take it. Same with Essence Drain. I was thinking of trying grant invisibility to use on the fluffies instead. Any other pool powers you would reccomend?

A far as cost, yea I noticed how insanely expensive the LOTG + recharges are now. 170 mil last I looked...A bit much. May have to try and get some with Merits. I didn't find the Obliterations to be that expensive though. I was shopping for a number of sets for 2 of my tanks a few weeks ago. Didn't seem that bad though I don't remember how much they were exactly. However Purple sets like Armageddon, Ragnarok and Hecatomb are still extreme in cost. For LOTG I'm still only trying to get a single enhancement from a set at an outrageous cost not an entire set at that cost or more. Are there any purple sets that you would recommend that are reasonably priced?
22. Oh nvm. I got it. I just had to import it. I'll be checking ur changes in a few.

THANX
23. Thank you for the feedback it is appreciated. I had not thought of Basilisk's Gaze. TY for that tip among others.

Where exactly do I paste the link into Mids to view ur build?
24. Hello all,

After a long hiatus from trying my WS I have returned to it with new enthusiasm.
I am approaching the 40s now and am closing on the final build. I am finding the slotting and choice of IO sets difficult. Other than Recharge I am really not sure what IO set bonuses are the most beneficial. My funds are decent but not on a scale to purple the build out. I have mostly avoided purple sets.

I'm building my shade as a Tri Former. So far I am focusing on recharge for lack of a better idea really, and most slots are given to Nova and Dwarf right now.

I like to switch quickly between my forms and I love to Double Mire. I use Nova and Dwarf form the most, just passing through human form for a Mire, Quasar, Fluffies or a Gravity blast or two. I guess I tend to spend a slight majority of the time in Dwarf form as I enjoy tanking.

Ok that being said this is the Mids build I am working with. Some choices are made simply because I don't know what else to do so any advice based on what I've stated would be of great help.

25. Thanx Rylas. This is exactly what I was hoping for. A very different view towards a build than mine. I see you are giving more consideration to the enhancement values rather than the set bonuses. There are suggestions here I never would have considered. I suppose I am a little END paranoid LOL. I guess I wouldn't really need so much recovery with EA and Consumption. However I already have a Numina and Miracle Proc purchased and ready to be slotted when I hit the 40's so I guess I will keep those.

Thanx for giving me some solid alternatives to consider
