Looking for a decent Gamepad

Howdy,

I am looking for a nice gamepad to use in CoH. I would like to be able to neatly assign as many functions to a key as possible and only use the mouse for interacting with the environment. Having a butterfly design for directional keys is a plus. I generally set up my attack powers in tray 1 and my defensive powers in tray2. If this can be translated to the gamepad all the greater.

So has anyone found a really nice gamepad they enjoy using?

Not sure if they still make it, but I use the Ideazod Fang (I think that's what its called). Basically just the game part of the ZBoard keyboards they make. Very customizable and very good layout plus comes with a very good preset layout specifically for CoX.

Well I have used three game pads for coh in all of my time playing COH.

1.) nastromo n52 game pad: This was my first gamepad and works pretty well. there is a bit of a learning curve but not too bad for the programming. it has multiple modes so it would work well for what you want to do. I used the different modes with my Kheld with some success and actually played this thing till it broke. I have owned 2 of these and like them.

2.) the Siatek gamepad. I forget the actual name of this one but thats all right IMO because its a forgettable gamepad. the learning curve is higher than the n52 (I never got it to work the way I wanted it to) and is slightly uncomfortable to use in long sessions. It also has different modes and is likely to do what you want it to do but, of the three I have owned this one was the worst.

3.) the Logitech g-13. This is my current game pad and the one I like the most. it also has three modes to program but these modes are on separate buttons that you don't have to program. The lcd screen has different functions that can assist you in fine tuning your game and has support for many other games than coh. This game pad is as easy to program as the n52 if not easier. A few problems I have been having though are that I will sometimes lose my profile because the profile loader will decide to load another profile. You can lock this in preferences to stop this. And I also have been dropping a button on my logitech trackman wireless mouse. While I am not sure that the g-13 is causing this, it only just started after I started using the g-13.

I dont know if any of this will help you in your decision in choosing a game pad but I think that any of these will allow you to enjoy your game more. have fun.

I've a Nostromo 52, and need to get myself back into using it. The wheel is digital, not analog.

I do like the look of the G13. One thing that is cool about this (although I don't know how it works out in practice) is that it has onboard memory for the profiles, so if you go somewhere else, and want to play on their computer, you can bring just this and not need to install anything.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.

Yes It is a cool part of the G13. I have a macbook pro and a pc and because of the way the mac loses its ability to ALT+ any key I had to adjust my macros for the macbook. The g13 does this(via anotherprofile specifically for the mac) so I don't have to load form a save file on the computer. I can just plug in and go. however if you bring this to a friends computer you'll still have to load a driver for the g13 onto the computer. The one thing I like is the ability to watch (via the lcd ) my RAM useage on the fly to know if I am overloading my ram and need to unloadgfx the game. as well as the built in timers and clock have also lessened my need for herostats thus saving more cpu cycles for the game

You might want to look at the Razer Naga...

Basically a mouse with 17 programmable buttons designed specifically for mmorpgs, you might not need a separate gamepad at all.

Everybody seems to be talking about keyboards/mice. While it might have been a mistake, the OP asked about Gamepads.

If the OP is talking about actual gamepads rather than fancy PC gaming accessories, I have one warning: I don't believe the right joystick (eg, PS2/3 gamepads, Xbox/360 gamepads, etc.) registers as anything in this game.

If you do purchase a x360 or a ps3(dunno how they work out) be sure to get a wired pad.
