What is Poverty?
Without liquidating my assets, I have:
Approximately 1.7 Billion Inf Blueside
Approximately 1.4 Billion Inf Redside
Because I have yet to finish Purpling out my Main, I consider myself to still be well into the Poverty Level.
(Realistically, I'm freaking rolling in it and have enough capital to make multitudes of inf if I got off my lazy **** and got back into the markets.
Poverty at this point in the game is when you can afford the 6 mil for your SOs at 50, but can't quite afford to upgrade to Common IOs.)
This isn't necessarily true. A while ago, I started a thread in the General forum asking for a definition of a casual player and whether or not the forum goers would fit that definition. My definition was that a casual player didn't play that many hours per week and didn't focus on the market.
|
The responses I got back indicated that while many self described "casual players" didn't play that many hours, many indeed worked the markets. In fact, they felt that the market actually allowed them to be competitive with their more active brethren since they could gain inf while being offline. "Casual" players do play the market and many players who play hundreds of hours don't. |
Or doing the KHTF before they nerfed it the very first time to get tray full of at level, origin specific, SOs from farming MARY .

I'll agree with not being able to purchase SO's as poverty.
That being said, If someone cant purchase SO's, something is horribly wrong.
When I started gathering my bankroll blue side 4 months ago, I had pooled 60 million from all my 50's onto a single toon...
...This morning I just paid 34 million in fee's for one IO... Crazy.

If you exclusively team, and do not do market stuff aside from selling your drops, redside you can easily get to 22 and not be able to afford all your SOs.

The xp/inf scale in the same way on teams. If you don't market your drops you don't care about them anyway except for crafting.
In the case of my bane, I just hadn't gotten many salvage drops that made very much on the market (yay Simple Chemical...). That and I've been too lazy to transfer any inf to him or drop anything in the base for him to slot or sell. Outside of throwing a few million at my Emp every now and then, I don't transfer much between characters (may change with inf email capability).

If you blow your wad on costumes, and other crap, sure, you might have problems SO'ing out your character. Of course, then you know where your priority's are n'est pas?
Pretty sure you make better infl. teaming than solo(team bonus) and if you dont market your drops, what does it matter how often they drop anyway?
I believe Eva said aside from selling your drops.

If the player is wearing a golf shirt instead of a tie, and cross trainers instead of black polished wingtips, he's a casual player.

I was talking about leveling WITH marketing drops, but not doing anything else with the market (so no flipping or crafting for profit, etc). Even trying to get the best price for your drops, redside low-level stuff just doesn't sell for very much.
Once you get into mid-range salvage a single rare can pretty much put you above the "can't afford my SOs" poverty line, but before that, it is entirely possible to use the market in a "casual" way and still be "poor."

If you have one to five million dollars at 50, you're likely poor (contingent on not having blown a ton to IO out/contests).
This weekend I've been playing my WM/Shield, who got to 50 sometime last week (the one who had less than 40M at level 47). Right now he has 392M, before even attempting to sell a Hecatomb.
I logged into my Bane, who just made level 22. He had about 500k. Enough to outfit less than half his slots with SO. I'd consider that poor.
