What to upgrade first Proc or GFX?
Personally I'd go for the graphics card first. Then grab the processor second. Somewhere in between that I might also grab some more RAM and possibly upgrade to Windows 7

We'll see....

That is the goal for the long run.
6 month plan (my current proc/gfx card) is going to the wifes - DONT ask how it runs COH omg it is sooo old I have tweaked and over clocked and modded that thing out it is an 8 year old Dell that is running a socket 478 chip and an agp card.
Get her a cheap mobo, some ram and case and build her something simular to what I have now as all she does is some art and coh and net surfing.
Graphics Card will be ordered at the end of the week, and the proc on the 15th and then windows 7 and 2 more gigs of ram for me by July once she has something decent parted together.
I would double check the motherboard manufacturer's web site to make sure your motherboard can handle the current crop of Core 2 CPUs. Usually it's just a BIOS update.
I assume you want to run Ultra Mode, which you don't need to do for Issue 17. It's not a requirement.
As long as you don't run other memory hungry programs while playing the game, 2GB is enough for now. But if you ever do bump that up to 4GB, along with a GB video card, you should really consider going to 64-bit Windows 7.
I concur with Flame, video card first, CPU second, memory third.

Oh it does, no worries on that bud, but thanks for the heads up
and while I know it is NOT requirement after dumping 3 grand on med bills and paying for my wife to fly out to spend a few weeks with a friend its time for me to get something for myself!
Went a head and purchased a XFX Radeon HD5850 1gb -HD585AZNBC

Next up is proc/ and it looks like I will need a better mobo with a higher FSB

I would say neither. You're listing a dual core and a 'faux' quad core (2 dual cores on the same chip - not a true quad core). Plus, those are both old technology at this point. I would go to the newer generation and get either a Core i5 or i7 (depending on your budget).

As much as I would love to skip up to a I5 or I7 then on top of the proc and mobo there would have to be a RAM upgrade to DDR3 Budget is $300. Though I could maybe, MAYBE squeeze out another $50 to $100
Well as you only want to get by for a year, I'd say enjoy your new video card (I have one of those, they're nice) and just leave it at that. No sense spending money on a processor you're just going to dump in a year. Save the money towards a really kicking mobo and processor when you do your big upgrade. What you have now ought to do reasonably well until then.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
With your extremely limited budget, I'd get the video card.
You'll end up processor locked for performance once you've got the new card,
but you'll get a MUCH bigger bang for the buck with a better video card than a
better cpu (for playing CoH at least).
However, before you lay out the cash for a 5750 or 5770, check your computer's
power supply to make sure it's got enough overhead to handle the new card.
Many "pre-built" systems (especially older Dell's) are notorious for having power
supplies that are just barely big enough to handle the components they came with
and really start limping if you try to upgrade....

I do not worry to much but "dumping" a limited amount of money on a proc as what ever I upgrade goes to the wifes pc.
I am running on windows xp and still have a 775 pentium 4 3.2
Gfx card is an XFX 7900GS ><!
I also run 2 gigs of ram
I am running a gigabyte mobo that will take in core 2 duo's and quad cores
I plan on building an entirely new rig next year once med bills are all squared away soo for now I must make the old girl tick a bit more.
So for I17 should I update the gfx card first or the proc?
For a proc I can get an amazing deal on the q9300 for $130 and as much as I love my Nvidia's you simply can not pass up the 5770.
My assumption is that with the new graphic, it would be wise to get the card first, BUT wanted to ask all of you experts first.
