Super Strength and its complications
As I just stated in the other (edit: oops, it was this thread) SS thread, I see an opinion here not backed up by reality.
Dual Blades was given to every melee AT. It's in no way brutish. It's purely a style set. The "elemental" sets staying with tanks/brutes was tossed when scrappers got fire melee/armor. Then brutes got claws. There's absolutely nothing smashy or heavy about claws. Nothing. Even with the tweaks it got during the port. When I hear something along the lines of "perhaps tanks shouldn't get katana/broadsword because of DivAva/Parry being grossly overpowerered on tanks" then I'll at least listen. I probably won't agree because kat/bs would be weaksauce on tanks. But I will no longer take seriously any argument based on "X shouldn't be ported over because of AT concept." Edit2: And Louis, I got claws on brutes because I wanted it. ![]() |

Because Follow Up requires substantially more animation time to provide that benefit and doesn't provide BU levels of damage and tohit permanently with SO grade slotting. FU is only 37.5% +dam and 10% +tohit for 10 seconds on a 12 second recharge with a 1.056 sec animation time. Rage would be 100% +dam and 20% +tohit for 120 seconds with an enforced 10 second downtime after on a 240 second recharge and negligible animation time. You can't compare the two of them by the numbers and find FU to be the broken one if you actually know anything about numbers.

I like the rage mechanic myself. I've always suggested that they turn Focus Chi into a similar buff, to improve martial arts. (call it something other then "rage" so it fits into the martial arts theme... like, oh.. maybe focus chi.)
Knockout blow?.. it's fine. Every set has to have something special or it won't be.. well... special.

I could name like 100 toons in super hero lore that are SS guys, none of which I would call a scrapper. I can think of 100s of toons in superhero lore which are martail artists...none of which I would call a tanker or a brute. Hmmm but you say SS fits scrapper. Umm no. The scrapper hand to hand mellee set is MA. Love it, live it, embrace it.

And how long did I have to wait for claws on brutes before it finally showed up? Just because you say it won't happen means little. If Castle came out and said "I won't allow it" then I'd accept that it won't happen.
The only fact involved is that we were told eventually all sets that made sense to port over would be. It makes just as much for scrappers to get SS as brutes to get claws.

The ONLY time Castle has ever stated that an AT will not get a set was with Stalkers and Shield Defense. So don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Admittedly, I didnt have MG yet...but...*sigh* The Damage just didn't feel there. Worse than other sets because of the Tankers lower DMG mod.
Survival wise...OMG! Great. Siphon Life just makes a WP even more unstoppable. Add in the little tohit to stack with RTTC for even more "can't touch me"!

I still don't understand why people bring up comic books like that freaking matters at all. Despite you naming super strong characters whom you would consider "tanker" ATs, I can name a few who I would consider "scrappers".

I know I much prefere to see superhero looking toons running around, than "I'm from WoW! Look at me!" heros running around. :P
Power sets just go more to that feel.

The devs have ported over things to ATs that make no sense on them under the "rules" you quote. Claws and DB on Brutes. Fire Melee on Scrappers. If Scrappers ever had a lock-in on "graceful" attack sets (debateable, as neither BS nor DB have what I consider grace), that was dilluted long ago.
There's just no firm evidence to support your position. Stop acting like there is.

SS/INV Scrapper? KoB crit? YES PLEASE!
Brutes are already doing Scrapper-level damage with the set, so let Scrappers have it.
I'd definitely give the Focused Accuracy treatment to Rage, and remove it's crash and it's ability to stack with itself (for all Archetypes) though.

Well, this is easy to fix: Make Dragon Tail the same size as Foot Stomp. Easy peasy! Heck, while we're at it, increase Spin, Whirling Sword, The Lotus Drops, and Flaming Sword Circle, as well.
All balanced now, and all scraps will love it. (Yes, I skipped electric melee's thunder strike on purpose. Also, spines, dual blades, and dark.)

It simply would not be overpowered for scrappers. I remember hearing the same people crying doom when they removed the animation gaps from katana, claiming it would break the game, lol. It didn't and neither will giving scrappers SS.
And SS is definitely not overpowered for brutes or tanks. It's got mediocre single target damage, and one great aoe attack, coupled with a very annoying crash every couple of minutes. Tanks and brutes have ss yet the other sets manage to still get played. If you want single target dps, you definitely don't want ss, and there are other sets with better aoe. So again, 'overpowered' not found.
Everyone complains about footstomp being great, but is should be great. It's literally the only aoe the set has and you get it dead last in the set. Sure rage is nice for the to hit boost, but you need to spend a power to get it, slot it up, and then you're just doing damage on par with competing sets, so again, the only actual bonus to the power is the to hit bonus, which is overkill 90+% of the time in the pve game, and even that bonus is countered with a very annoying crash every couple of minutes where you do no damage, take an end hit and a def loss.
In regard to those saying it doesn't fit thematically with scrappers, thats just nonsense. Super strength is the iconic melee super power. To claim the melee specialist at should not have access to it seems pretty illogical to me. Scrappers, tanks and brutes are all pretty similar thematically, which is why they share many of the same sets, as they should. But if you're going to argue that being super strong doesnt fit with scrappers because they are inherently finesse while tankers and brutes are inherently more brutal, then good luck explaining dual blades being available on tanks. But beyond that, if there is one super power that should be available to all melee at's, it's the iconic SS.

Sunspot - scrapper. Definitely not a tank, definitely not a brute, definitely has super strength.
The simple thought, what makes anyone think it won't be ported? It just hasn't been ported yet.
And why would they port it now? So far, they've ported Fire Melee and Electric Melee (and theme matching Defense Set).
And really, I think they they'll port over Ice Melee or Energy Melee next before Super Strength, not because of numbers, but because of players.
What was always the big complaint? "OH! Scrappers are stuck with Smashing and Lethal damage, the most resisted damage type in game! We need elemental sets!"
Well, they're giving the scrappers Elemental Sets. I wouldn't want to put up with the headache of more "Smashing damage? No!!!" posts myself.

The reason SS has not gone to scrapper is conceptual and not fear of being overpowered. There just some sets that Tankers, Brutes, Scrappers and stalkers are just not going to see, because it goes against the concept of the AT.

And my opinion on porting the set is that I don't care what they change numbers wise, as long as Foot Stomp retains the radius. Lower Rage, lower the damage and KD chance on Foot Stomp, but please don't lower the radius. Stomping the ground and only having the people in melee range be affected just would feel weak, like Frenzy for Crab Spiders (oh how excited I was for that power until I ran into the middle of a group and only hit 3 guys with it).

I'd have to crank up a stone melee scrapper should we get it. SM is the biggest end hog damage set I've used yet. Being able to use it with CP/PP from body mastery with an AT that actually deals damage would be sweet.

I would also play Ice Melee, Battle Axe, War Mace, and Energy Melee. I want it all for my Scrappers.

If a character has better offence than defence, they're a Scrapper. I they have better defence they're a tanker.
Sunspot, Beast, Night Girl, Timber Wolf and Spiderwoman are all examples of superstrong scrappers.
Lets also not forget that Stalkers have Broadsword.
