Anyone know how much more GR will cost?

I was reading from a email I got from NCsoft. They said that the Going Rogue patch will be an extra charge. So I take it we will have to pay for that upgrade? Has the price been set yet? I would of assumed that since there are so many less players now on COH/COV that it would of been free. I have 2 accounts that I have managed for at least 47 months and 56 months. I been seeing so few players now that I was seriously considering retiring my accounts and moving on. I might even put my accounts on Ebay since I have around 25+ lvl 50s on them each. If it gets too expensive I may go the cheap route and stick with STO instead. That is fun at the moment and looks to be a decent game. If I could afford 3 accounts active per month I would stay. But I got to spend my money wisely nowadays. I will say this.....because I been with COH/COV since its inception ( beta ). I hold all MMO's accountable to a high level using COH as the standard. If they don't meet the basic standard that COH has set....I don't stick around after a couple hours. Even if it cost me a month lost.

City of Heroes Going Rogue (MSRP $29.99 USD)! You will also be able to get your hands on an exclusive item pack if you get the City of Heroes Going Rogue: Complete Collection (MSRP $39.99 USD), that will be available when Going Rogue releases in July!
You will still be able to play City of Heroes without buying Going Rogue after it launches, you just won't be able to access content related to Going Rogue without buying the expansion. So that means no access to Praetoria or side-switching since that happens in Praetoria.

Edit: Things like the new powersets in Issue 17 and the Ultra Mode grahical upgrade are not tied to the expansion and won't require buying it. The same thing applies for any content additions to the main game that come out at the same time as Going Rogue. The Devs like the players and... *checks hand* ...aren't stupid.

First of all, don't openly flaunt breaking the EULA. Your post may come under the mod-stick for even discussing things like that.

Secondly, the expansion isn't being forced on you. You don't have to buy it, it won't hurt your gameplay, and you'll continue getting all the quality free content you are used to.

Thirdly, thus far the game has been advertised as having a free month included. So imagine the basic version as being $15. The CE is $10 more, and includes (more or less) a costume back which incidentally, normally retails for about $10. So you'll have to decide if the expansion is worth $15 for you.

Finally, I still play most of my characters hidden because of all the blind and reverse invites I get. Teaming, TF, SF, Trial spam is everywhere. New SGs forming, etc. I can't speak to whether the player base is growing or shrinking--but I have enough trouble hiding from teams. I never have to look for them.

You edited your post. Ultra mode is free, the new powersets (so far) are not.

Actually there are still plenty of people playing , perhaps at different times but not a mass exodus like some continue to say . I'm saving my money for the 39.99 verison when it finally comes availible and going for another year to finish both of the bases I have going for my personal hero/villian groups . This is going to be a great year for COH

I don't think people realize how right you are. Considering how the pre-orders will have to by live by the end of this month, we are going to start seeing the marketing goodies FLY.

Frankly I've gotten so many hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of enjoyment from this game over the last six years that the idea of "having" to pay another $40 to get even more entertainment from this game is a no-brainer for me.

If I were to try to average the extra $40 into the overall total I've spent on this game per hour of play time my average would probably go from like 10 cents an hour to like 10.5 cents an hour. From that point of view the cost of GR for me will be effectively insignificant in the greater scheme of things.

We've know for many, many months that GR was likely going to be a retail expansion. If money is truly an issue for you it should have been easy enough to set aside like $5 a month to budget for its eventual release. Basically I have no sympathy for anyone claiming "GR should be a free expansion" when they have two or more multi-year old accounts at this point... Sorry.

Well at least I know the price now. I been a loyal follower of this franchise since the start. Price isnt the real issue for me. I just don't want to continue playing a game where finding people to play in the hours I do is difficult to do. If I wanted to solo all the time. I would fire up my PS2 or Unreal Tournament PC games instead. maybe I will buy one expansion for one of my accounts or both. Depends who I feel at that moment. I'm getting a good sized tax return this year. So I shouldn't be hurting for cash anytime soon thats for sure.

Collector's Edition price: $40
-Costume Booster price: $10
-Free month of play: $15*

I can afford $15.

*(As stated on various websites. Even if they're wrong...$30 is nothing. That's a night at the movies.)

i hope you're not talking to me with this post since nothing i stated is taken from anywhere but the announcement i linked to that's in the announcements section. AFAIK that section is visible to everyone since it's where public announcements are made.

The only edit i made was to add a clarification in the addition marked "Edit:".

i may be mistaken, but to me it read that those who pre-order will get access to the new sets early, and i admit i may be making an incorrect assumption when i stated that the sets will be available to all once GR launches simply because every powerset added to the standard ATs so far has been accessible by all players of those ATs.

It is possible that Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning will not be. There's also been no mention as to whether Electrical Control will be free to all or even in Issue 17 or Going Rogue, but i hope it makes it into one of them.

Ocho posted that Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning are a part of GR, so you need that to play those. Pre-ordering unlocks them early for you, though. They might open them up a year down the road, but probably not for awhile, if at all.

Schismatrix, the EULA thing was aimed at the OP, who was talking about selling his accounts on Ebay, which is against the EULA. Basically a gold farmer then.

Not sure why GR would make you want to quit, though. We still get free issues, and this should have a lot of extra, making it worth the purchase. Not sure why a smaller population game can't expect that when WoW can...

if the server you are on isn't cutting it you should take advantage of the free transfers and find one that does have people on at the times you play. you can also go to the server section of the forums and post in some of the servers that you are looking for groups that play at the same time you do.

i would as well. i don't know if i've ever played with the OP, but i always feel that the more players there are out there the better it is for the game and my enjoyment of it. Then again, one of my great pleasures is joining PuGs because of the sheer unpredictability of what i will encounter. i've found teams with awesome, skilled newbies, and teams with inept, clueless veterans. And vice versa. The OP's subscription fees helping to fund further development is another plus, of course.

Yeah, just read that a little while ago.

The game is still worth playing with or without GR.
