What's a good secondary for an energy blaster?

I have very limited experience with the energy primary; the closest thing I have is a mind/energy assault dominator which is a completely different play style (I'm guessing). I'm posting because I'm at a loss on which secondary set to choose. Since energy is very single target oriented I was thinking of going fire to have some AoE ability but it doesn't fit my concept very well. Since I already have a devices blaster I don't think I want to go that route, though I imagine cloaking device would be handy for positioning knock back without aggroing other spawns. For the energy blast veterans out there could anyone point out some synergies between it and the secondaries?

Energy/Energy is not my preference, as Power Boost, Boost Range, and Power Thrust don't do much for you; /Elec is better for Blapping, and Energy Blast doesn't have any stuns, so there's not much synergy for En/En.

Elec, as stated, would Blap well. I don't honestly know whether Blapping with all that knockback will be tolerable, though.

Mental is a great set all around, and is what I chose. It brings a lot of 1) AoE and 2) survivability to the table, and it doesn't require you to melee.

Ice is probably a bad idea because all of your knockback will knock them away from Ice Patch and Chilling Embrace, and the slows from Shiver will stop them from grouping themselves up again after you scatter them.

(tl,dr: Mental Mastery.)

/Electric is just fine, thank you.

My level 50 is Energy/Electric/Electric. I think the combo works well, but that's probably because I actually like KB a lot for mitigation. Solo - nobody is hitting you if they are on their backs. In teams, judicious use of KB (not scattering mobs unless it's necessary to save the team, aiming the KB effect towards the meleers, etc) is not the bugaboo that so many people moan about.

Energy / Energy is fun, though not that great from a powergaming perspective. It was a lot more fun when Total Focus could one-shot stun bosses and Power Boost affected knockback though.

I'd definitely recommend /Mental since it adds AoEs and boosts survivability. /Fire and /Ice tend to work best against clustered enemies, and Energy focuses on un-clustering enemies, so they don't fit well. /Electric could be handy for blapping, though again, blapping + knockback is annoying.

Really, I'd say /Mental fits best. /Devices could also work if you like /Devices... I'm not fond of it myself because I miss Build Up too much and don't have the patience to use mines.

Yes. Sorry for the vague wording; by "what I chose," I meant that I actually made one. It was a blast, and (incidentally) the gold & blue color scheme I chose for both sets was one of the prettiest power setups I've ever done.

I favor /devices. My Energy/Devices blaster is the first one I actually kept with either power set. Since neither set rellies on blapping very well (and in fact both sets are anti blappers) they fit very nicely together. Devices helps mitigate any AE defficiencies that energy has, gives you much more reliable accuracy (making aim unneccessary). And popping a mine down is fair compensation for the lack of a power up. For a mine you get 20% boost to damage for 7+ seconds (defiance), a back up in case enemies charge into melee with you, and you can use it every fight if needed. The stealth is infinately useful, the smoke bomb is very handy, and even the web grenade makes air superiority a pointless trick since it too drops fliers.

Smokebomb + Cloak + trip mine at the baddies feet + Nova = dead spawn.

My first and by far my favorate toon is an Energy/Elec/Force whom I have had for a year. There were some growing pains and learning with him but by far he is a bit of a powerhouse. ( I am I would say 85%+ Ranged most of the time but it is sooo nice to have melee AOE just in case and shocking grasp has snuffed out many villians lives)

Nothing more of an amazing feeling then hitting up a Nova then popping a blue and then Power Sink to get right back into the battle.
The Elec/Melee secondaries are great for finishing off the weakened mobs that do not get knocked back in your inital attack (Which is rare) and well I love hitting up Repulsive blast and the TAOE NRG Blast as if you do them in that order they seem to hit at almost the exact same moment.. All and all Elec seems to compliment nrg rather well, and force really compliments them both together..

THOUGH I kind of wish I had done Mental to be honest!~ I just rolled a Sonic/Mental and am having a blast I may try and make a Energy Sonic before double XP weekend.

I have always had idea's of wanting to roll an Energy/Device Blaster as well for pure range. All three ideas are great suggestions for you.

My First Blaster (and 50) was an Nrg/EM. It was fun, but I later on made an Nrg/Elec and enjoyed him a hell of alot better. Same basic playstyle, but just better overall ability with the Nrg/Elec. And speaking as someone who has played the heck out of and loves /MM to death (lvl 50 Fire/MM, lvl 44 Arch/MM, lvl 33 Ice/MM and eventually a DP/MM) I'd still say /Elec. (Although /MM would be my 2nd Suggestion.)

My first 50 was an energy/Ice manipulation and i loved it. Knockback was great and chilling embrace and ice patch kept me alive on many tough near death fights. If mental manip would of been around i prob would of given that a try too.

Well, I cant say that id make a Blaster with Energy/ as a Primary, or a Secondary.

Iv seen people on Blasters, and dont really find my self wanting to make one personally.All the ones I watch people on Face Plant way to many times in 1 mission to be desirable to me.

However, my recomendation would be a odd one, because it would work on the same Mob KB + Spin attack method I used for my Claws/Regen Scrapper.

Use your AoEs, KB the mob, jump in, and use Fire Sword Circle, and then Combustion from /Fire Secondary if you want to choose Energy/ Primary.Have both your Hot Feet, and Blazing Aura running as well.

I could very Easly see that Combonation doing some surprising damage and survivability.

If you wont make a Energy/Fire Blaster, I think I will.
