Dark Melee DPS and attack chain

Now, I know for both Brutes and Scrappers, Dark Melee has the potential to be the highest DPS set, with Soul Drain potentially providing an epic boost. Also, the Brute version gets Gloom, which rockets its DPS even higher. I have just a few questions.

1. For Stalkers, is DM the highest DPS set, even w/o Soul Drain? (Assuming Perma-hasten)

2. Is Dark Blast part of the max DPS attack chain for DM Stalkers (I.E. MG>DB>S>SL>DB>S as opposed to MG>S>SL>S)

3. Is Dark Blast worth taking Soul Mastery over Leviathan even though Shadow Meld will probably be useless? (Planning on a /Nin or /SR)

for the first question, im not entirely sure, but in terms of solid DPS i would say it has a good chance, definitly yes if you take soul drain

for second question, i dont think it would make a huge impact on dmg, but another attack, and a ranged one at that, would be beneficial

for the last question, shadow meld would be an excellent power to go with ninjitsu or SR because it does +def all for like 15 sec and has a rech of 1 min, with perma hasten you would nearly be able to perma shadow meld. the only downside to shadow meld is that enemies can see you while you have it active.

I actually did some number crunching and made some interesting discoveries:

1. in terms of DPS and DPA, dark blast is better than both Smite and SL

2. the MG>DB>S>SL>DB>S attack chain definitely outdamages the other one, and requires less recharge.

3. an even better attack chain (with equivalent recharge) would be MG>DB>S>DB>S
I wouldn't use this one as it marks only a small increase in DPS and a huge drop in survivability by abandoning SL, but it's still an interesting development.

Sorry, unclear on my part. I meant, "since the stalker version of DM uses Build Up instead of Soul Drain, it loses some damage potential. Even without this added potential, is Dark still the highest damage set?"

My shoddy wording

Haven't been able to post for a while, but I would have expected someone would have corrected you by now. The numbers you're getting for dark blast are not right; I'm betting you're looking at mids, which has its damage at just about twice what it actually is. So before you make your build around it in game, I suggest checking its stats elsewhere.

Just noticed this thread...

Numbers for DPA considerations, completely unenhanced and ignoring any criticals:

Dark Blast is the best of the single target ranged Patron attacks, but it's still worse than Siphon Life, which is worse than Smite. If you can get it down to MG->Sm->SL->Sm you're better off.

How much recharge is need for that MG->Sm->SL->Sm chain?

"Hmm, I guess I'm not as omniscient as I thought" -Gavin Runeblade.
I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

Well, the animation times are listed up there, so you'd need to get the recharges down to:

Midnight's Grasp: 2.112 (SL) + 2.376 (1.188 - for Smite - x2) = 4.488 seconds
Siphon Life: 2.244 (MG) + 2.376 (1.188 - for Smite - x2) = 4.620 seconds
Smite: 2.112 seconds (shortest of the other animations)

The recharge formula is:
Final Recharge = Base Recharge / (1 + Recharge Buffs).

Rearranging it a bit, you get:
Recharge Buffs = (Base Recharge / Final Recharge) - 1

That means that you end up with the following:

MG: (15 / 4.488) - 1 = 2.342 (or +234.2% recharge)
Sm: (6 / 2.112) - 1 = 1.841 (or +184.1% recharge)
SL: (10 / 4.620) - 1 = 1.165 (or +116.5% recharge)

So counting enhancements and global recharge bonuses, 235% in the power itself. Figure 70% for Hasten, another 65% (being conservative) for slotting, so ~100% global - note that 109% is perma-Hasten.

I would think it would be to your benefit to throw AS into the mix after placate and BU then return to the chain until BU is available again. Or at least placate before MG when its up.
