Most Popular AT: CoX Demographics

I have searched and cannot find. And while this is probably just trivia, what I want to know is What is the most popular AT on City of Heroes?

Not getting into specifics of power choices, just the archetypes.

I know the information has to be here already. I suspect that Scrappers and Blasters are most popular, followed by Tanks and Controllers, just from what I've seen. But the circles I run in aren't the only ones around. I've never hung with the 50s.

Thanks for any data/thoughts.

Peacebringer.

But seriously, check for Arcanaville's posts. There was a population study or some such done prior to the Dominator revamp that showed statistics.

If I recall correctly, all blueside ATs were about even except for the kheldians, which were considerably lower. The same was true of redside, except the numbers were lower across the board.

Where to now?

Cool, thanks.

Didn't expect controller to be higher than Tank.

It's all the Fire/Kins, I'd wager.

I always thought it was a myth that there were so many. You don't see them in normal mission play. I guess the Chinese farmers behind all the spam [they never run out of inf] have to have armies of them. And yes, I've turned my "email" off, but I think it's still on on my new toons.

Edited to add: Wow, and I didn't think, even with the CoHtitan data...the gold farmers aren't even running herostats either.

The problem with that is that (a) it's not the full population (Arcana, IIRC, got the info from BaBs posting about something, and (b) even for those who voluntarily run one of the clients that reports back, they have to remember to do so and keep it up to date. I know mine are out of date by at least ta month and probably more, for instance, not showing some additions or deletions.

It'd be like using Steam's user hardware profiles to determine what the population as a whole has for hardware (and OS) configurations.

Interesting there- that shows a number of things I wouldn't have expected. Namely that Virtue is more populous than Freedom. I wonder how accurate that is.

It's not. It's just the people who use City Info Tracker are more common on Virtue than on Freedom. At least, that's the conclusion I'd draw from it.

Supposedly PvPers tend to be heavily drawn to Freedom for the population. Also, people who liked the AE exploits liked big, easy teams, and may have been overrepresented on Freedom. The changes to PVP and the AE exploit nerfs supposedly drove away many of these people and probably disproportionately impacted Freedom, while at the same time, NOT driving off invested roleplayers, who flock to Virtue.

On the day of the AE nerfs, Virtue for the first time appeared more heavily used than Freedom, and it has often been that way since, when I looked at server order. So I wouldn't be at all surprised if Virtue is (now) more populated than Freedom.

Thanks for the perspective. That makes much more sense. One other quandary: any ideas on the disparity between luminous aura and luminous blast on the primary/secondary powerset usage chart? One would think that because these two are locked that the number would be the same.

If you tend to do most of your work in one form or the other, then most of your power usage will be from the set that contains the form (Luminous Blast if you favor Nova form, and Luminous Aura if you favor Dwarf form). This would be my best guess.

New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

As another data point, a few months back Westley had a look to see what ATs people were actively playing. Obviously this is extremely unscientific since it only counts people who were on at a particular time and were un-hidden. But still, it's an interesting data point.

Quick question: how often is that cohtitan website updated, and is that all current information?

Usually, I find that sorting through the archetypes on the team search menu gives me a rough estimate of archetype popularity. I would imagine it varies by server, however, I usually find that, on blueside, defenders are the most scarce, followed by tankers. Also blueside, scrappers are consistently the easiest to find. While my villain experience is much less than my hero experience, I would think it's safe to say that stalkers are the least-played redside.

This information is based on team search checks over the course of about 15 months playing, and is almost exclusively from Virtue server.

Not to pull a "But everyone I know voted for McGovern" but just about everyone I know has a fire/kin. Its a nice combination for a controller and can be built to kill things quickly which is something people seem to enjoy.
