Force Fields - Starting Over

So, I was playing PK for the first time in AGES in order to "prove a point" to Ultimo_ and it really made me miss the little guy. It's been over a year since I "killed him", but that was officially on the Protector Shard. He still exists as a level 50 on Freedom and Justice as well, and on every other sever at various low levels to preserve the name.

So I made a decision. After over a year of not playing him for any real period of time, I'm bringing him back - on Champion this time.

But I'm going to play him JUST AS IF I was a new player, meaning no vet powers, pack powers, etc. Just as if I had just bought the main game without anything else.

Now I know that I have all sorts of experience with this guy already, and I can never get rid of that experience... but it HAS been a year, I AM rusty... and just to mix it up a little bit more, I decided to pick a blast set that I'm unfamiliar with - Radiation.

So, while I have extensive experience with Force Fields itself... I figure by "gimping" myself and not using any "special" powers and also picking a new secondary set for me, I'll come as close as I possibly can to the "new player experience".

I'll update you all on my progress and my stories if you wish, but needless to say, I'm level 2 and all I've got to say right now is that my power tray is looking scarily empty:

So watch for me on Champion if any of you want to team with me.

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove. I think it's boring to continue to reroll the same set. Rusty or not.

Why not try Cold Domination or Sonic Resonance instead? I think playing a set you don't have experience in would be much more valid as a new player experience test rather than replaying a set that hasn't seen many (if any) changes since you've last played it.

It would be a lot more interesting to see Philotic Knight on Champion as a Cold Defender than as another Force Fielder.

The character himself will always be directly tied for Force Fields, that's simply that.

And I'm not really trying to "prove" anything, except maybe to prove to myself that I'm not spoiled by vet powers perhaps.

EDITED to add: Would it makes sense for Magneto to all of a sudden become a plant controller in Age of Apocalypse even? I think not.

Well pk I think that it will be a fun experience to have another ffer. Especially having a character that buffs yours and ur teams defense, but also debuff the enemy's. May I ask what color scheme will u be going with?

Pure white. For all powers except Detention Field, which will be bright red.

White looks really nice. I have 2 ffers one onvirtue one on freedom. One of them has a warshadish glow to it if ya know what I mean. The other has a yellow and green combo which looks intriguing as well to be honest the main reason I wanted color customizing was for ffs I love to color my bubbles!

I guess it depends on how much you love any given powerset.
After getting Biospark to 50 and all the many alts I have played using Electric Blasts, I STILL ADORE electric blasts. So much so that I would love to have ???/Electric Blast Defender of EVERY PRIMARY Hehe

Of course, real life, family, job all that stuff makes that more of a dream than a real possibility.

Even so, Emp/Electric turned out so well for me, that my second highest defender is a Kinetic/Electric Defender on Guardian. He was sapping at 27 just as well as Biospark can at 50. Thats impressive.

Westley, Good Luck on your new PK. I think you will be unimpressed though until you get Cosmic Burst.
But from the sounds of it, you are not planning a solo trip like my current FFer.

BIOSPARK :: DARKTHORN :: SKYGUARD :: WILDMAGE
HEATSINK :: FASTHAND :: POWERCELL :: RUNESTAFF

I've got a FF/Rad at 47 right now. Really fun, but I couldn't see playing him solo or on small teams without the vet powers to take down bosses. I probably should have called my guy Proc Man because he is loaded with procs in NB, Irradiate, Neutron Bomb with a Force Feedback +rech in Repulsion Bomb. Lots of fun, but lacking on damage.

Current:
Fridgerato - Traps/Ice (Frdm)
Gadgetron - Grav/TA (Lbrty)

So r u telling me that I should reroll my most recent traps fender? Lol I've heard about the lack in damage. Problem is I do not want sonic! Everyone says sonic is great, I hate the animation and what it looks like (I don't like the idea of yelling at ur enemies to "arrest" them). So I may reroll him hehe maybe into ele blast ;p

Don't do that! My Traps/Dark is at 36 and is as fun as hades to play on teams and solo. Joined an ITF with him last night and it was funny to watch those primitive screwheads run into clouds of poison gas only to start choking and puking everywhere or pick fights with the Acid Mortars. Oh, and trip mines. Watching a whole crowd of men in skirts get flung in all directions is always funny. Oh, and i must admit that i skipped Triage Beacon and eventually took Life Drain. i have the Day Job Revive power, so i can still help teammates who are injured.

<back on topic>

My first Defender to get past the twenties, and the second to hit 50, was my FF/Rad. Teaming was fine, but i found soloing to be horribly slow and tedious. With all the changes since 2004 it's possible that it would be a different experience now.

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...

White bubbles are terrible to see through when the entire team has them and there is a big dome bubble over the team. Go with grey at least so they are dimmed.
