Queue Wilhelm scream.....
Niviene are you guys out to get me? Last week on our regular Tuesday nights play and as we are about to get kicked off for the third week in a row due to a patch I said to my playing partner "hey how about we switch to wednesday nights for playing instead of Tuesday? That way we never have to worry about getting kicked off again." He thinks for a bit and says "Yeah, I think i can rearange things to do that. Lets start next week."
And what happens? This week there is no patch on "patch" night and instead there is one tonight. I'm starting to get paranoid... Has the patch day been changed or is this just a once off?

I think it's probably GR - the devs have completed it in secret, and now we're getting it for Christmas.

Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.
I think releasing a major expansion, and then going home for the holidays would not be such a good idea

Likely no patch, just maintenance before the holidays. I imagine none will be done between tomorrow and New Year's.

The current version on Live has the flowing hair in the piggs; the downtime is to roll it back to a version without the hair, and now they have to retest everything, pushing them back to the originally announced Q2 release date - without the hair.
