Windows 7 issue

Ok, so i bought CoH Architect edit. through steam a couple of hours ago, downloaded and installed the game just fine, however i am seeing unusually long load times (takes 2-3 minutes to start up the game) However, my main issue is that when i made a character, and try to get in the game, my game starts to load, and after 5 minutes (still trying to load) the game returns to the login screen (probably cause my client timed out, i guess)

I am trying to figure out why there are such huge loading times, that i cannot even get in the game.

here's my CoHHelper info:

I have tried forcing dual CPU support, affinity for one CPU, safe mode, renderthreading, etc. Nothing seems to work.

Desperate to get this game to work, since i love it

You are running CoH as Administrator right?

Sorry to ask such a basic question, but I know I tend to overlook the obvious at times.

Also do you have antivirus/firewall software running? If so try disabling them and running the game as admin

A guy from the french board told us that he had the same problem, and by using the Updater from the install folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CoHUpdater.exe), it runs fine.
I also had the problem, the only solution I found was to install CoH on its default folder (I was installing it on a Data partition).

I hope it helps, but this bug happened to a bunch of people over here, and I don't think anyone has been able to find the solution to it.

Should right click on CoH and select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and make sure Compatibility mode is OFF (Unchecked) and make sure Run as Administrator is ON (Checked).

If that doesn't help, double check to make sure your video drivers installed correctly and that your CoH folder is excluded from any Firewall/AV software.

We'll see....

The solution is following all if not some of what I've posted above. Each of those individually as well as together resolve pretty much any/all issues with regards to slow loading in Windows 7. There isn't some crazy bug. It has to do with the settings on the user end.

We'll see....

I have moved the installation to default folder, Compatibility mode off, run as admin on, reinstalled graphics drivers correctly (not that they weren't already) and excluded City of Heroes from windows firewall.

No improvement.

More suggestions?

Lack of free space on your C: Drive could definitely be an issue.

Ok, how do i change the settings without being able to get in-game? the farthest i've gotten to was the character screen.

EDIT: how is 12 gb a lack of harddrive space?

No change, if anything, it takes longer to load, cause windows seems to take things slow when minimal starting

Because Windows, and some programs, don't give a rat's rear end what the size of free space is, just the percentage of free space on the drive. When free space gets below certain percentages, they have problems and/or complain about the lack of free space.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

C:\Program Files\PowerISO\PWRISOVM.EXE
That is know to slow systems down as it trying manage fake drives

C:\Fraps\fraps.exe
Doesnt always cause problems and I do run it without issue, Might want to check to make sure it is not having issues.

unless you use Groove, I would turn it off, wasted resourse for most people.

with having 4 GB of memory, 32 bit os and 12gb free HD space. I would check your swap file settings in windows. If windows in managing it, you could be swapping out 2-3 gb of that free space idle.

you may think 12gb is a lot but it can go fast if windows things it needs more for the swap space.

I covered that when i started Windows with minimal background programs running.

And i deleted pretty much everything on the harddrive bar City of Heroes (100 GB left, roughly) Still no dice
