Free server transfers were the bestest gift ever! I was able to transfer some unused alts to free up space on my home server AND did some creative transfers to rename an old 50!

Whomever came up with this idea needs a gift basket ASAP!!

Let me think.

1) Bob: Virtue -> Freedom
2) Create alt on Virtue named Bob
3) Bob: Freedom -> Virtue (requires rename)
4) Profit?

1) Create Alt on Protector named Bob.
2) Move Bob on Virtue to Protector (requires rename).

I used both methods. 1 for my 50 that stayed on my main server and one for a mid 30s alt moving to a new home.

And yes: profit!

Since people have been doing that since paid transfers were put in place, I highly doubt anyone is surprised at Paragon Studios.

Why would you pay for a two way transfer, rather than just paying for a rename?

The whole idea is that right now server transfers are free till the end of January 2010 so by using the free transfers the OP got a free name change since if you move to a server where your name is taken you are automatically granted a free name change token

Where are we going and Why am I in this Handbasket?

I imagine it was actually people who wanted to move a character anyway using this to get a free rename as well.

I have a feeling they did. They're a smart bunch, those Devs

Plus, it's not like you get unlimited renaming. Essentially, you get a max of 6 renames if you're willing to transfer to a new server or 3 renames on your existing server. Nothing too excessive and a nice Xmas treat!

I'd still love to see some free renames.

You're missing a step there to explain why I would want to be anywhere but Virtue!

What does happen? Does it block the move or can you use it to have two characters with the same name? If it's the latter I'm totally going to abuse this to rename one of my characters (I have Adeon Hawkwood an AR/Dev Blaster and Adeon Hawkwood MK2 a Traps/AR Defender, same guy two suits of power armor).

I've done it before with a paid rename (to a new server not there and back again) and it worked fine, so if there is a block in place it is a new change.

Perhaps the speed with which they made the alt and did the switch was too quick for the server to keep up with?
