Rad/Sonic

So I have a rad/sonic at lvl 26. I really want to get him to 50 and I have a build all planned out, but its slotted for strictly recharge. I want to be able to solo AVs. Should I have slotted for something other then recharge, or will my toggles (Radiation Infection, Enervating Field) and heal be able to keep me alive?

If you don't want to use inspirations, you will want defense. Tohit debuffs are heavily resisted by AVs, and while you could survive most AVs by only using EF, your heal and kiting, doing so would most likely result in not doing enough DPS to take them down.

Recharge will have you throwing out lots of attacks and debuffs, but you still need to stay alive and the endurance to keep fighting. AM and some of the recovery uniques and procs should give you enough endurance to last. Most AV killers will want to soft cap ranged defense and some kind of flight (even if it's a puchasable jet pack) to stay out of reach of the AV.

While Defender's radiation infection get's you most of your defense, you'll still want some of your own in case the toggle drops.

That depends entirely on who you're fighting, some things like Titan throw out targetted AoEs

A lot of melee area attacks are considered melee type anyway.

thats why you take hover to be high enough to be out of reach of the melee

as far as i tried this by eochai it worked.
a thing like webnade is godlike by these things
as well most targeted aoes are subscribed with a ranged or melee component (be away of melee and let the ranged def do all the work)

What might be confusing you is that AoEs with short ranges can have either a Melee Tag or an AoE tag. To use the example from the wiki, both Fire Sword Circle and Blazing Aura are melee range PBAoEs (with ranges of 10' and 8' respectively) but Fire Sword circle has the melee tag while Blazing Aura has an AoE tag. There are no hard and fast rules for tagging, the devs can tag powers however they want although in general they do it based on what "feels" right.
