I am gonna get ready to make a bot/dark MM..

And I was curious what are the pros and cons of the AT and the combo..

And thanks you for your time..

A very powerful combo. The cons are that Bots are a little low on damage until 26 and especially 32; and Scrapyarders 20-24. But all MMs have troubles with those guys. Take everything but Black Hole from /Dark; skip the personal attacks and Repair from Bots/. The weaknesses of the AT in general would be AoE attacks and Confusion ( since having your pets decide you are the enemy is kind of awkward ).

Also; if you are new to the AT you need to know about Bodyguard if you don't already. If a pet is in Defensive/Follow, it is in Bodyguard mode. If you are hit, any damage is split between you and whichever pets are in Bodyguard, which makes you hard to kill. The downside is that you can't order a pet to attack ( although they'll return fire ) without the leaving Bodyguard. I normally leave some on Bodyguard at all times, and direct the fire of others.

The first thing I do when making a new MM is right click and edit the control buttons, turning them to Defensive instead of Aggressive and Passive. You can also direct your bots from the pet window, and drag the resulting button to your power tray ( although you should check if the command is the right one just in case, and edit if it isn't ). There's also a whole complicated system of binds you can set up, which I never got into.

Ive heard of the Bodyguard thing before.. Dont you gotta do something to get it set up?

Nope, only thing you have to do is have your pets in defensive/follow, defensive/stay, or defensive/goto.

It helps to set up macros to make these happen, though.

And switch to advanced controls. Simple ones will get you killed.

Where to now?

Ahh, my first MM that hit 50 was a bot/dark.

Loved every minute of it, tar patch is great when the assbot lays the burn patch on top

Fluffy is a great healer as an extra pet

for easy BG mode, right click on your given follow button, then edit, and change the aggressive to defensive.

twilight grasp can heal for about 406 once slotted in the high levels. (maybe higher, but that's the highest I've gotten to)

lots of variety for set bonuses.

the fear cone is great for your bots to shoot fish in a barrel

wouldn't bother with repair, TG/fluffy will take care of your heals

take howling twilight and use it in battle too, not just as a team rez, as the stun is good regardless

Hope it helps! Happy hunting!

Ive twiddled with a few builds but I havent lately sat down and came up with a good build..

I agree with the previous posters. You might want to make room in your build for the Robotic's Photon Grenade. The stun stacks with Howling Twilight and the Protector Bot's stun abilities: seeker drones and their own photon grenades. A lot of stuns can add up to good things, like loopy walking nullifiers.

Triumphant Defenders Forever
Psylenz FF/Psi, ArticQuark Storm/Rad, Symon BarSisyphus Bots/psn, Max VanSydow Thugs/Dk, Cyclone Symon Bots/stm, Blue Loki Ice/Cd, Widow 46526
HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.

The only things I would add to this advice is that when you get high enough in level to take the Mu patron (The AoE immob is the only one with -kb to keep mobs in those lovely burn patches and tar patch), and I would also seriously consider getting repair since it is a 100% heal to any of your pets and it can save the AssBot in dire situations. The way I see it a bots MM without an AssBot is a dead or useless bots MM, and AoE heals are not always enough.

A Mastermind has downs...?

Whaaaat?

Kidding, kidding. Yes, a Mastermind is probably the more advanced of any available Archetype in the game present. The sheer amount of roles you can fill with this Archetype alone, and the ways with which you can accomplish them, are staggering. That does not, however, come without folly. The Mastermind is a difficult class to utilize and understand at first being that, in the higher levels, many newer players are turned away without advice from existing Mastermind experts.

Another downside is the nearly total reliance on the pets themselves. The vulnerability of the first tier pets is also a huge problem for Masterminds, as a merely "adaquate" AoE will ravage them while only denting your hardier allies.

Another trick: You can give Inspirations to your henchbots. Either drag and drop the Inspirations directly on the bot, or drag them to the Bot's name in your pet window. Note though that each pet is only part of your damage output; so red Inspirations are much less effective for MMs than other ATs.

For slotting, one tip I can give is to refrain from slotting your prot bots with heal. They do heal, but only do when the required amount to heal is the amount they heal for. So if they heal for let's say 395, they will wait until the bot they're healing needs that many HP restored or more, and by then it may be too late.

Bots/Dark is a powerful debuffing combo, so make sure and take care of your secondary alongside your bots. For example, Darkest Night is a great power to slap on an enemy with high accuracy and/or damage. With your bots' defense being boosted from Protector Bot Force Fields, you get more out of the set than others.

The radius of your heal is rather small, so make sure and get close to the pet who needs the heal most.

I'd suggest you dip into the leadership pool. Any or all of the powers will benefit you. Maneuvers will boost your team's defense on top of the force fields, Assault helps boost damage in those slow levels, Tactics helps you stick your heal, and Vengeance is nice when teaming in order to recover from a near wipe.

Howling Twilight isn't just for teaming. It has a nice Stun effect on nearby enemies, giving you another advantage over the enemy.
