It's not CoH doing it, and it's not Windows itself doing it.
I tried disabling Trend Micro... Playing the game in windowed mode, I didn't notice any window lock up, but I was still having the same issue with ventrillo where I lose the microphone (usually) or microphone and speakers.

I need to try it again in full screen mode and see if the window locks up. I DO, however, notice my system making a "system sound" but nothing happens. It's the same sound I get when I plug in a plug and play accessory (printer, headset, iphone, etc.)

Is anyone else using a wireless mouse and/or keyboard?

I'm using a Logitech wireless keyboard, and was using a wireless mouse with it until recently (didn't switch due to problems, i just wanted one with more buttons ^.^). What brand are you using? Do you have any software installed for them? Has the keyboard been cleaned lately?

Also, regarding Vent and your mic/speakers, Win 7 seems to handle those a little differently than XP did (not sure about Vista). Is your mic part of a headset, or stand alone? Try going to your control panel>Sound and checking the settings. Make sure your mic (or the card it's plugged into) is the default recording device, and the card your speakers are plugged into is the default playback device (and if you're using a USB headset, the headset should be the default communication device). There are also some setting in Vent that can affect both (I had a heck of a time setting up Vent under Win 7 the first time around).

I've had this issue for months now. For me, it's a driver issue. Using the Nvidia 185.85 drivers, CoH does NOT disable desktop composition, it stays in Aero mode, and alt-tab'ing and window focus work exactly like they should. Any newer driver up to the 195.55 I have now causes Windows to disable Desktop Composition, and the alt-tab issue to happen. Try rolling back to 185.85 and see what happens.

Yup. To me, it's driver-related as well.

I just saw that new drivers were released today, 195.62. I tried them out, and they have the same issue. If trying drivers out, be sure to reboot before testing. the 195.55 and 195.62 both work perfectly after installing without a reboot, but after a reboot, the problem was back. Roll-back to the 185.85 driver solved it for me on a GeForce 8800GT.

I was using a Logitech Wireless keyboard and mouse combo. I switched to a wUSB keyboard and mouse and have not had any issues. I've also been playing in windowed mode because it's the only way I can get Herostats to work with the game and windows 7.

I am no longer getting the peripheral connection system sound. I lost vent once, but I don't know if it was a real problem or not. (I'll check your suggestions on my speaker/mic settings.. it's a headset w/mic)

Okay.. so it seems both problems have been avoided.

Playing in windowed mode has stopped the issue with losing the focus of the game.

As for Ventrilo, I found they have a 64 bit version. I downloaded that and have been using it with extremely better experiences. In 2 days of playing 3+ hour sessions, I lost the microphone on vent once.

Was this ever solved?

Having the same issue with the loss of focus.

Mine was on a clean machine too. Had no AV added yet, or Vent or teamspeak nothing but stock PC stuff.

The only thing that's stopped is the game freeze for me.. and I accomplished that by playing in Windows mode.

Everytime I hit on something that seems to work, the next time I play, the issue comes back again. I am now getting the "found new device" sound outside of the game. Vent keeps dropping.. sometimes not for 3 hours and then sometimes 5 times in 20 minutes.

There seems to be multiple possible causes to this issue, and no single solution. If you have no AV we're suggesting disabling non-Windows services one at a time through the Task Manager until you find the one that's causing the problem for you.

Thanks, but..meh sounds tedious and I am lazy. I'll just deal with it.

Quick update on this issue for me...

The game has not froze since I started playing in Windowed Mode. I also believe I discovered a fix for my Ventrillo problem. I had my usb headset/microphone plugged into a USB hub. Said hub was plugged into a standard USB port. I unplugged the headset and plugged it into a high speed USB port. Since I have done that, I have not heard the "found new usb peripheral" tone or had Ventrillo drop out.

I would try switching CoH back to full screen, but in Windows 7, if I do that, I can't get Hero Stats to stay on top of my CoH screen. So, I will continue to play in windowed mode.

Life is good. Now if I could only find a job

I am experiencing another problem with Windows 7 that I have not seen before on this forum.

Just installed it this morning.

My problem:

* City of Heroes loads extremely slow, but it does load, from character selection to actual game play, it may take 5-10 minutes to get in
* Graphics is running at the lowest possible resolution, even though I have set the highest in City of Heroes options

Basically the game looks like crap and loads very slow.

I have tried

* Compatability mode (XP sp 3 or Vista sp 2)
* Desktop composition disabled
* Run as administrator

I run in Windowed mode.

I am fairly non-computer savvy. What else can I do to get the nice gameplay that I had in Windows Vista (sp 2)?

Time, try upgrading to the latest driver on your graphics card

Ok, so now the game loads, everything looks great in good graphics, but when I select a character and want to play, the zone window starts loading and never finishes. After a while, I am thrown out back to the login window.

So now I can't play at all. What to do?
